ICE kidnapped a 7th-grader with a pending asylum claim and spirited him out of state without notifying his parents, seemingly with the cooperation of the local police in Everett, MA.

A 13-year-old boy was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Everett after an interaction with members of the Everett Police Department and sent to a juvenile detention facility in Virginia, according to his mother and immigration lawyer Andrew Lattarulo.

The boy’s mother, Josiele Berto, was called to pick her son up from the Everett Police Department on Thursday, the day he was arrested. After waiting for about an hour and a half, she was told her son was taken by ICE, Berto told the Globe in a phone interview.

“My world collapsed,” Berto said in Portuguese.

From the police department, the boy was taken to ICE’s holding facility in Burlington on Thursday evening, where he spent a night before being transferred by car to the Northwestern Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Winchester, Va., on Friday morning, his mother said. The juvenile facility is more than 500 miles away from Everett.

The boy is a 7th-grader at Albert N. Parlin School in Everett, his mother said. The teen and his family, who are Brazilian nationals, have a pending asylum case and are authorized to work legally in the United States, Lattarulo said.

He should look on the bright side.
At least he'll get to see his dad again.

...or, instead of hiding from it, you could push back on the dehumanization and disenfranchisement of trans people, and in the process signal that you see trans people as human beings and not "excuses."

That has the added benefit of further differentiating you from the censorious fascists.
tawnimarshall.bsky.social
Sounds like another good reason to never vote for him.

To be clear, there shouldn't be censorship of either pornography or trans existence, but recognizing that expressions of trans existence are fundamentally different than pornography, which is and should be age restricted, is a crucial part of this fight.
tawnimarshall.bsky.social
It's about censoring trans people specifically, though. It says so right there in the bill. Anyone who won't fight the censoring of an entire class of people, regardless of how they feel about those people, doesn't really hold an anti-censorship position, do they?
tawnimarshall.bsky.social
You can recognize that while fighting censorship. Ignoring it is self-censorship.
tawnimarshall.bsky.social
Republicans declaring trans existence as pornographic is a fundamental issue within this bill.
tawnimarshall.bsky.social
A ban on any depiction or description of trans people is right there in the bill, though. That's a direct example of Republicans trying to "silence any perspective they don't like."
Why not call that out specifically?
(B) Is a depiction, description, or simulation, whether real, animated, digitally generated, written, or auditory, that includes a disconnection between biology and gender by an individual of 1 biological sex imitating, depicting, or representing himself or herself to be of the other biological sex by means of a combination of attire, cosmetology, or prosthetics, or as having a reproductive nature contrary to the individual's biological sex.

Mamdani talking lucidly and passionately about trans rights and history in a video that should frankly shame every politician who has hemmed and hawed and triangulated and said, "Well, but sports..." It's not that hard to tell the truth and stand for what's right. www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEvV...

I wrote a little about some of the little details you might have missed in this video and why it hit me so hard as a trans person this morning:

UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.

One of my favorites in a long list of favorites from Prine! I got to see him play this at Bonnaroo 20 years ago, though it feels like 100.

is it not weird that every day there’s a new video of anonymous masked men having the time of their lives beating/shooting/disappearing people and the dem response from the top down is “republicans want to double your health insurance premiums”

Chiitan has a dream.
I hope that one day the term LGBT will become a thing of the past.
I will continue to spread my message until we live in a world where everyone can love freely and is free from persecution and discrimination.
Until then, let's all support each other🤍

The toothpaste is out of the bottle now. Trans existence is more normalized than it's ever been. A world without trans people, like all nostalgia from the fascist imagination, is a past that never existed, and to which they can never return.
