Yesterday I tried to put everything I knew about whistles—where to get them, where to get instruction sheets, how to distro—into one place so you can build off it for your own community's whistle needs: dansinker.com/posts/2025-1...

Lincoln abolished slavery & managed to save the Union. Teddy Roosevelt shifted the corruption inducing spoils system in politics by rewarding merit rather than loyalty. Trump trying to revive an old film "remakes" American culture? Why are we accepting these ludicrous, tyrant pandering headlines?

If you think things can’t keep getting dumber, just wait until the next day. It only trends in one direction.

Please hear me when I say that

1) these anti-medical woo birth movements have been a primary feeder into anti-vaxx eugenic movements

2) they pre-date the age of social media

3) they exist because we have not addressed medical sexism and specifically obstetric violence

There is so much abuse, indifference and quackery out there, I don’t know what I‘d do if I hadn’t found a midwife practice that is covered by insurance, delivers at a hospital, doesn’t push unmedicated birth, and is serious about consent and trauma-informed care.

I read a little of this. gotta take a break and come back to it later

but hi

CSA survivor here who had a home birth with a midwife in Boston

I *deeply* get why people get sucked into this world. medical treatment feels like, and sometimes just is, abuse

AND there’s a lotta snake oil out there

I feel so bad for these women. I understand the appeal due to the lack of respect many women's bodies receive in labor at the hospital, but to have no midwife, no chance of hospital transfer, and to be talked down from getting emergency medical care when mother/baby are dying is some vicious stuff.

I had a CNM & wanted a water birth

At a check, my bp was inching up, she ran a blood test & said: we are going to the hospital right now

After 2 days in hospital I was diagnosed w preeclampsia & HELLP Syndrome

My CNM was fantastic: she stayed w/in her scope of care, as specifically she should../1

I will never understand - pregnancy and childbirth used to be the leading cause of death for women, to me it is equivalent to the vaccine lies. Find a good OB GYN and establish trust. So sad.

So sad, all of this quackery and mistrust. Every generation brings new quackery and disinformation to visit upon expectant mothers, for a fee. This article did not really explore how hospital costs for the uninsured or poorly insured raise the likelihood of people looking for alternatives.

I have found my way out of being anti-vax but it was absolutely rooted in the constant mistreatment and dismissiveness by medical professionals.

Starting with a fabulous story about the *lecture* from an OBGYN while hemorrhaging from a miscarriage bc I wasn’t married when I got pregnant…

This article, while wild, doesn’t pull back far enough. This was all over crunchy message boards in the early 2000s and I’m sure it goes further back than that. Same thing with anything MAGA. I was in unique online spaces, maybe, but it is wild to me how much this stuff was talked about then.

This has long been something I’ve found deeply frustrating. I support abortion rights, but it makes me angry that abortion & birth control are the only reproductive rights most people fight for; if you actually want to have a baby you’re on your own. 1/

Free birth is eugenic *and* it exists not because birthing people want their babies to die, but because there are so many horror stories floating around about doctors disrespecting birthing people in what is one of the most vulnerable states any human can experience.

People love to pretend like pastel QAnon and RFK and anti-vaxx moms are just a function of bored privilege and ignorance, but the reality is much more complex.

These anti-medical birth movements cross class and race lines and exploit very real gendered trauma from medical sexism related to birth.

Ha I was just posting a less pointed version of this. "There are too many c-sections and dismissive doctors causing trauma" and "medical expertise saves lives" are both true! It's not simple for the everyday pregnant person to parse and there's so much propaganda.

THIS. As a doula, I find myself deeply distrustful of OBs AND furious at freebirthers. Most OBs have never seen a normal, physiological childbirth. And freebirthers are fucking delusional and babies die.

I’m hoping now that the list has been exposed as a Russian wishlist, they’ll have an avenue to do that, yes.

The administration is scrambling trying to figure out how to respond. Now they’re saying it was decidedly on bilaterally, but it was written up by the Russians. Ridiculous.
