amid bumping one simple wish i want to give a nod to this too, since it was shared with me. i looked into the affiliated charity (Allies in Arts) and they're legit. it's structured as purchases off an amazon wishlist sent directly to the recipient.

As more people are uninsured, they will turn to county funded behavioral health, public health, or emergency response for care. Sheriff's deputies will see an increase in the number of mental health crisis calls and long transports to Winnebago.

Meanwhile, the top 1% of earners get $1T in tax benefits. This is the real tragedy of HR1 - regular people shoulder deep cuts that take food off tables, strain our public health nurses, and threaten our nursing homes so that the wealthiest people in our country can get showered with benefits.

Here's the sad reality. @equalaccesspublicmedia.org just paid this month's freelance bill for @the-word.news. Without a miracle, without an angel donor, without something happening quickly, by the end of the December 15, we're out of money.

Sitting in a community meeting. Farmer just said “tariffs hurt everyone.” followed by “it just looks like they’re paying off their voters.” Huh.

That's the things that the US populace hasn't yet grasped.

A medical system that lets you take care of the little things w/o fear of financial oblivion leads to a healthier population AND far lower medical costs in the long-run.

I found my new epitaph:

"I was accused more than once by some Board members and the Governor’s office of being stubborn. Perhaps I am. But stubborn and principled often look the same, especially to those who are unprincipled."
Former UVA president Jim Ryan, who resigned over the summer due to pressure from the Trump Administration, just shared this 12-page letter with the Faculty Senate, detailing his experience with the Board of Visitors and DOJ.

It's a surreal--and troubling--read.

I simply refuse to accept that police ever have to look like this. this is just pure cosplay. it should be illegal for cops to be dressed like soldiers going to war.

Chicago's ICE resistance just showed the world that everyday Americans are good and fearless in fighting for their communities

But our cowardly elites -- especially Senate Democrats -- still don't get it

There are certain fights that you need to either never pick in the first place or be certain you're willing to see all the way through.

The shutdown was one of them.

My elected disappoint me daily, but I suppose it’s just that I expected integrity and instead found nothing but a gaping hole. Anyway, the day before the Democrats caved, my community got together, fed families of school kids with enough left over to fill the food pantry. We save us.

Rick Scott was CEO of a large, for-profit healthcare company called HCA. While Rick Scott was CEO, HCA stole so much money from Medicare they were fined $1.7 Billion.
Rick Scott told me his plan would be to take all of the remaining ACA subsidies and redistribute them to HSA accounts and people can then buy whatever insurance a state certifies. Basically a repeal/replace.
He denied when I asked wouldn’t that create two-tiered system where sick pay much more…

forcing SCOTUS to block SNAP benefits (at which point Senate Dems could have thrown in the towel, blaming the Court).

And instead, Senate Democrats, under the "leadership" of Schumer, capitulated. surrendered. snatched defeat from the jaws of victory

Since the Democrats worked extra hard to hide who actually supported this, I think the No Kings/Resistance position should be to primary every Democrat unless they publicly call for Schumer's ouster this week

Either they go into total rebellion mode, which they won't, or the people will

Feels like this should be a no brainer and I really want The Word to stick around so maybe there are other people out there who should drop some money their way? Like you, if you’re reading this. They use GiveButter and it’s tax deductible. equalaccesspublicmedia.org
But we will get a grant — all the grants, in fact — and more donations! Because people believe in our work at @eapmstyleguide.bsky.social and @the-word.news. And our other projects, like training journalists on accessibility, and eventually launching a new national outlet.

In actual functioning democracies/republics, this nonsense never happens. The government/budget continue at baseline so long as new legislation is not passed. We are not a serious country, let alone a democracy/republic by any serious definition. We don’t have to tolerate this. It’s embarrassing.
The U.S. gov. has been now closed for a month. R congresspeople & senators not in DC. The White House starting to show some urgency just now by asking for ending the filibuster & reopening the gov as most citizens blame Rs. Paychecks have now stopped for many, SNAP in question, healthcare primes up.
