I have long believed that we should be WAY more vocal about how police and ICE constantly murder dogs, and I think this is great messaging actually.

The reality is that you can mobilize a whole lot of usually tuned-out Americans around a “someone is being mean to hecking doggos” cause.

The Catholics have been solid on the environment for longer than that (with the significant exception of refusing to budge their nonsensical position on family planning)

YUP

Since the advent of ebooks, and therefore the elimination of the condition of "I don't have anything to read", I have become more and more ruthless about DNFing books that aren't doing it for me.

... I mean, if you're speeding, you're speeding, I don't see why you shouldn't get dinged for that.

(Fifteen years of driving hybrid and then electric cars have made me a total killjoy about driving speed, a fact for which I do not apologize. Get off my ass, I'm mileagemaxxing here.)

It's an opt-in feature of their app, which detects phone use while driving. (And is clearly able to distinguish between when I'm at the wheel and when I'm using public transit, since I am pretty much always doing something on my phone while on the bus/metro!)

You know what got me to quit, cold turkey, ever looking at my phone in the car for any reason other than GPS navigation?

Knowing that my insurance company was tracking my driving patterns and that un-distracted driving would save me money.

Also, people gotta make up their minds about white people and food because they’re always like “your food is unexotic and bland and also how dare you ever try anything from anywhere else.” Give us an out here.

(Yes, Fetterman was already problematic; no, he wouldn't be the mess that he now is without the stroke)

Platner seems unlikely to have a debilitating stroke weeks after taking office and undergo a major personality shift

Yeah, it's not exactly normal from the beginning.

And in fact, there are many, many books that are bad and no one should read.

"Any book is better than no book" is simply false.

books are not empathy hacks and reading a lot of them is not necessarily a mark of moral character.

Hell, we're already at the Imperium in many ways.

Except that usually if it's packaged as litfic it kind of sucks in genre terms (no, I didn't just finish yet another unsatisfying litspec novel, why do you ask?)

Sounds like the way an LLM operates. No actual human thought or contact with reality, just an infinite recursion of references in an echo chamber.

This is why I believe, that even if Jeff Bezos was a fucking saint who gave away 99.9% of the billions he can never spend anyways, I would still rather tax his dumb bald ass to hell.

That money, handled by actual experts, from a large, efficient, governmental perspective, would be

Otherwise, however, I generally eat bagels one of three ways:

- toasted with butter
-cream cheese, sometimes with stuff mixed in
- as a breakfast sandwich, which I make myself and which are damn good

The other fun one is where people retcon the joe biden being forced out by leftist posters rather than like a bunch of dem insiders leaking to the times axios and other rags starting early spring 2024. like pelosi was leaking this shit by march and most of the ones pushing it early didnt want harris

When you get a fresh hot dozen of sesame bagels from Fairmount in Montreal, it's involuntary. At least one of those babies will have been inhaled by the time you get to the bus stop. They're just that good.
