I was obsessed with the new-ish translation of Beowulf by Maria Dahvana Headley because it actually captured the spirit and feel and fucking fun of the original poem better than a lot of stricter texts. It’s not trying to be the ultimate translation, just good as hell.

I have taken to holding the alarmingly large kitten like a baby when I catch him eating Precious’s dinner. Then I whisper “baby jail” at him while I carry him in to time out in my roommate’s room.

It's pretty random which books stand the test of time. For every acknowledged classic, there are a at least half a dozen books that are just as good and no one remembers them except one grad student or crazy bookstore owner.

I turned a duplicate of the manager of the royal beth into the city. I LIKE Furnace. She deserves to have one face again- and to get to enjoy her victory.
