At the moment I need help dealing with the overdrafts, $32 to turn my phone on, money for paratransit fare, possibly purchasing a medication I need that Medicare/Medicaid refused to cover. I also need cleaning supplies for my apartment and more quarters to do more laundry.

So like I'm not lying about being sick and I'm not lying about being disabled but the issue with the social security office can only be fixed in person for some reason and I am too sick to go. Luckily my medical needs are mostly covered at the moment. But I need some other things.

Yeah we were in the ED for 2 nights (?), briefly in a swing bed on the ortho unit, then surgery, discharged home with no overnights after surgery. $50k. (Most of it got forgiven with the financial assistance application but nevertheless.)

when Kya got appendicitis a lot of the Canadians we know kept saying “good thing it didn’t happen in Canada, she would have been waiting in the ER for days” and we were like. she DID wait in the ER for multiple days. the difference is we got charged for it.

I agree that it’s not perfect, especially having been starved for years via austerity.

But I do think many Brits- including, I suspect, your husband- have similar idealistic views of the American system, particularly if they’ve experienced it from a place of privilege and good insurance.
