Accurate. Coincidentally, I'm quite annoyed that Windows has finally reached my personal "this is intolerable garbage" threshold and I now have to find the Linux distro with the least amount of tweaking required to make Minecraft run with mods.

So the trick to being a Linux person is wanting a computer to satisfy the same niche in your life that other people fill with lovably neurotic pets.

Yes. Workers in overseas garment factories are often paid as little as $2 for a 16-18 hour work day.

It depends on the job, but I know many people who have success using capsule wardrobe principles and go a bit heavier on the accessories to make 'new' outfits out of a limited number of base items. It's not a wholesale solution, but it's a start.

I understand where you're coming from, Sabine.

It's finally back to school term which means we can finally go to the playground again without being overrun by school children out on leave, AND we're finally lurgy free, so October is finally looking like a month worth having.

If we contract more lurgy this year I'm moving into a bubble.

That seems to be the article's implication, yeah. I'm not a big bread eater though, I found out about this effect when I had to do an elimination diet and was cooking a lot of potatoes and dry beans.
garaksapprentice.bsky.social
Nope, just cook then chill in the fridge. The faster it chills the more starch gets converted, but you don't have to freeze it.

No wonder Brum was always breaking out of the museum to go do things. He didn't want to be stuck in the retirement home, he had better things to do!

Australian guidelines are similar from memory. I'm late to the asthma club and mine usually plays nice unless it's hay fever season, so it's been a fun learning curve.
garaksapprentice.bsky.social
I haven't them either unfortunately. I can see them working really well for some people and terribly for others, but I'd love to have the choice.

... My Australian self is extremely concerned about what's going on in Arkansas. We do just fine going after feral pigs with a .303. Hell, our old mobile butcher takes them out with a recurve bow.

My GP switched me to a canister-less preventer and I dearly wish the same thing was available for ventolin. It's *so* much easier for me to use without accidentally gassing myself or triggering a coughing fit. The minuscule environmental savings are nice too, since the entire inhaler is recyclable.

Really worth digging into the replies here, especially if you're fuzzy on the difference between machine learning and generative AI and how they're used (or not) to moderate large social media sites.

This is going around again and it is not true. Like every site on the internet, Bluesky uses machine learning to do a first-pass approximation of image classification to detect and label content. They have repeatedly confirmed outside services do not use Bluesky user data to train their models.

...I'm slightly ashamed that all those years on Facebook trained me so well into forgetting that sometimes it's the actual artist posting their own work, and not just people reposting without credit. 🤦

Sweet, thanks! I have a suspicion my eldest will be interested (and I definitely am).

You and your native plant guy have done wonders. I'm in awe.
garaksapprentice.bsky.social
Oooh, that looks cool. Do you happen to know the artist/comic name by any chance?
garaksapprentice.bsky.social
They look remarkably similar in growth habit to the native saltbushes here in Australia, which I find fascinating since I doubt they're related (not that I've bothered to look it up). Convergent evolution is a wonderful thing.

The Singing Hills Cycle books are all excellent and you should totally read the new one, because I have to wait a month to read it myself and you deserve good things in your life.

I don't remember who told me this, but the person who said that silk will happily take the cotton setting on the iron is the GOAT. Took me less than 30 min to iron an entire kimono (about 8m of 15" fabric, plus assorted collar pieces) and all it took was a bit of steam and a brisk press. #sewing

Not really, most of the recipes I've seen/tried only use a couple of tablespoons of pumpkin. It mostly changes the texture slightly and gives a mild pumpkin taste to go with the pie spice. But given you gotta make coffee and then put it in a blender with all the rest, the effort isn't worth it IMO.
garaksapprentice.bsky.social
The worst part is, I've seen latte recipes with pureed pumpkin in them. They're... OK, I guess? Drinkable, but nothing special.

So some companies defrauded Centrepay users and now companies are sad that they can’t access Centrepay?
garaksapprentice.bsky.social
Geez, good effort! May the hand sewing be quick and painless 🤞
