I’ve also considered IRV single seat House and STV proportional Senate where the entire country is one electorate. i mean if we’re tripling the house’s size, might as well triple the senate’s. in that case, stv on a statewide level

Would also work as a bargaining chip, “pass the bill or we’ll put your seats on the line”

Though this is the issue of a new government being elected and then immediately get blocked in the Senate and having to call an election again.

We could do the British strategy of weakening the Senate so that the House overrides the Senate

A thing I really believe about gay rights is that we didn’t win by changing everybody’s minds, we won by getting the very large contingent of fence sitters to actually pick a side, and outnumbering the ride-or-die homophobes to the point that they finally had to shut up.

we were absolutely militant about masking. I love masks as a tool to prevent spreading illness and will happily put one on when I’m under the weather and need to be in public. the idea that we should all mask forever or until covid is “solved” (it’s endemic) is unserious. the vaccines are a miracle

They also fetishize East Asia as universal masking havens. While traveling there it was definitely more common but by no means universal. Countries with far worse sanitation environments aren’t masking either. #zerocovid literally seems to be a first world problem.
