Let's simplify this. The Constitution is a contract. Citizens agree to a government only so long as it abides by the terms. Any govt that does not abide is illegitimate.
I miss the world where a human artist could tell Pete to get fucked when asked to illustrate this post.

Starve the trolls, my friends.
The most precious commodity you have is your attention. You don’t have to waste it on poor-faith debates or arguments with strangers if you don’t think they’ll be productive. You can prioritize the things that matter to you and make your life richer.

Any identification issued by the government with a centralized database is a power imbalance that can only be enhanced with digital ID. The UK government must listen to people in the country and say no to digital ID.

It's the Legion of Doom. What we've got is the Legion of Doom.
It’s wrong to lump all top Trump people in one category. There are differences among them. But they do seem to fall into three (sometimes overlapping) categories:

• Ordinary criminals (grift and corruption).

• Sex criminals.

• War criminals.

Throw this in the bin marked "extremely relevant questions that will never be asked because it would make the scumbags uncomfortable I guess"
i mean what are these "western values" these guys are so hopped up about? they are directly antagonistic to western europe. they don't believe in civil liberties. they reject democracy. and don't get me started on christianity, they hate their white neighbors almost as much as the brown ones

I know this is correct, but it’s also really hard to sit with when those of us who STUDIED FUCKING HISTORY WERE SOUNDING THE ALARM THE ENTIRE TIME SINCE GUANTANAMO OPENED UP AGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH
A running theme of Trump II is cautious, level-headed, mainstream, career professional experts sounding existential alarms about how we aren't panicking nearly enough.
I know you already know, but for other folks who don't, Goldsmith was previously head of OLC, is a genuinely brilliant mind on executive authority and separation of powers, and is usually very cautious about making claims this unqualified and direct. That he is saying it so starkly is v significant

They “finish off” suspected cocaine traffickers hanging helplessly off boats in the open ocean.

But an _actual_ cocaine trafficker who just happens to be a conservative political elite gets a pardon.

It really sucks that one of the most important election interference cases in the U.S. was derailed and now dropped all because Fulton County DA Fani Willis had a romantic relationship with the special prosecutor she chose to lead the case, leading to her being barred from the case.
The Georgia election interference case against Trump and others has been dropped
The historic Georgia election interference case against President Trump and allies for their efforts to overturn the 2020 election is no more.

Would someone please develop an alternative to Facebook for civic orgs already?!
It's really hard to defend government, vital services, or city councils using Facebook as their primary *or only* channel of communication with the people those institutions purport to serve.
It’s really hard to defend industry academic collaborations with meta as earnest, if they’re internally burying evidence of harm.

This struck me as well. This guy thinks of the press like he thinks of his employees. He really has no idea how any of this works.
Of all the weird nonsense Trump has said recently, the most revealing is when he got angry and called a reporter “insubordinate” this week for asking MBS about Jamal Khashoggi’s murder.

Just a real Holy Shit moment.
