I think this will become necessary at some point as social media becomes more and more heavily restricted and policed due to capitulation to fascism. I think it would be better to get ahead of the curve, but ultimately necessity will probably be the motivator for most people.

there isn’t obviously, but there are some tools that are better suited for the job than others. A great example would be a journalist refusing to use signal and discussing sensitive information in twitter DMs that could put their source at great risk of reprisal.

the way the at protocol works is that all of the instances talk to eachother. So if I have a home server and you have a home server, we can still interact and see eachothers posts, but I cannot take your posts down and you cannot take mine down
