I read the thread and know why they're not failing the students. They gotta let colleges fail the students for the sake of the curriculum and other students
An issue we're seeing at all levels of university is that many students are simply refusing to do *anything*. They aren't reading the syllabus, aren't following assignment guidelines, aren't engaging with material, ignoring deadlines. And this might seem like old news, but it truly has ramped up.

At this point, our intro comp/first-year English course has been so heavily revised, it no longer includes a novel, or "extended reading" of any kind, no "specialized" or "historical" reading, mostly in-class assignments, no research essay...and we are still seeing a 40-50% rate of AI misconduct.

A twelve year old can make AI porn of his teacher but cannot see the movie Before Sunrise in theaters. Does that not feel completely insane.

Probably my ticket to see Geese last week. Also paid $0 to get my phone battery replaced last week and it feels like I got a whole new phone, but AppleCare costs more than a hundred bucks for the year so I don’t really think it counts.

The best thing I bought this year under $100 US/Canadian is a PBS Passport membership. I can support public broadcasting which really needs the help, and also get so many wonderful shows, and *without* further enriching complicit oligarchs + corporations like Bezos/Amazon or Ellison/Paramount.
