Resist the urge to return to normal at all costs. It is an illusion. And a dangerous one.

1. There is no living with MAGA.

2. We are now in the Anthropocene. The world we knew is gone. Climate change is here, now.

It’s time for America to grow the fuck up.
There are two kinds of people: the ones that run away from the Ethiopian restaurant, and the ones that run towards the Ethiopian restaurant.
like yeah on this basis I am forced to conclude I am in fact a harder fucking operator than a strapped 6’2 guy from Dallas who shits himself with raw terror when he sees a Ethiopian restaurant
as a small person who has spent a ton of time traveling alone without ever feeling the need to carry a gun, I also think about this a lot

now that's more like it
The Congressional Progressive Caucus, a group of nearly 100 House Democrats, will announce later today that it's formally endorsing legislation to strip $175 billion from ICE and put it toward affordable housing. www.huffpost.com/entry/doj-fe...

/6 ICE is a monument to totalitarianism, lawlessness, and bigotry. It should be ripped out and woodchippered root and branch and replaced with something focused on the concept that you can’t defend the rule of law by burning it down.

/5 But it’s true that sometimes entities and agencies are irretrievable because their culture is so enmeshed in complacency or infighting or incompetence.

Or, I argue, in bigotry and contempt for the rule of law and thuggish entitlement.

As happens one of my early jobs in the 90s was a working the very company Adams worked in and was basically lambasting (our local telco).

My view was that Adams’ basic critique was way too narrow. Pretty much his issue was that guys like him weren’t important enough.

Al Gore was President.
There's probably a dimension out there where not-terrible Scott Adams correctly read the direction business and technology was going.

There, Dilbert evolved into the full rich tech bro bad guy of the strip, and remained both funny and relevant.

We don't live in that dimension though.

There are liberals who getting into fights with cops. There are socialists sneering at this from the sidelines

Yes, we do really need to comprehensively overhaul the immigration system as well, but the actual case for abolishing ICE has virtually nothing to do with that, it's simply that it is untenable for the Federal government to have an unaccountable internal security force with arbitrary authority.
A point that needs to be made over and over again rn. What we're watching has extremely little to do with immigration enforcement. Its a bunch of thugs basically in a state of rioting bc theyve lost their minds and dont think there will be consequences for their behavior
They don't even pretend it's about immigration or crime or whatever anymore. They'll arrest and they'll beat and they'll kill all because you don't cower in fear and respect like they want. People hate them and it makes them furious.

Conservatives and, unfortunately, far too many liberals love to say that opposition to inequality is all envy (or my favorite, "zero-sum thinking"). This is a lazy failure to engage with arguments against inequality from across the spectrum, from Plato and Jesus to Smith, Mill, and Marx.

Apply to be a an ICE agent! Yes, you! Go on, do it now! The more, the merrier!
A few months ago, ICE hired me

I didn't sign and submit any paperwork. I almost certainly failed the drug test. I'm real outspoken about my opposition to the Trump administration, and I am extremely googlable

And yet, there it was, in plain English. "Welcome to ICE!"

My latest for Slate
You’ve Heard About Who ICE Is Recruiting. The Truth Is Far Worse. I’m the Proof.
What happens when you do minimal screening before hiring agents, arming them, and sending them into the streets? We're all finding out.

We have the law, we just need to start enforcing it again. Hell, Trump did in his first term, and Biden with Lina Khan and others went hard, which is the biggest reason he lost, the super rich hated him.

People who don't have activism experience often ask what the point of big protests is. There are LOTS of points, but this is a really big one:

When people start building their protest muscles at big, long-organized events, when they start networking—they're able to do all this ⬇️, within *48 hours*
At nearly 1,200 events across all 50 states and DC, Americans honored Renee Nicole Good and mourned all the lives ICE has taken and destroyed. #ICEOutForGood
