Mostly the same applies there. Like Sliwa wasn’t born privileged but he is a white guy which comes with its own privileges, like the largesse afforded to a white vigilante gang that beats up innocent people on camera is impossible for another group.

Zohran isn‘t blue collar but he is a self made success story. The same was true of Obama. Not blue collar but a self made meritocratic success story. The kind that is hard to achieve but they did it.

First - it's all bullshit. Any bit of acting by an actor these days is called "DID YOU KNOW this was improvised"

Absolutely. The folk culture of comics in manga never left Japan. They cultivated a tradition there rather than just shutter stuff because of empty trend chasing.

Like it looks sharply at excesses of fans but also compassion. Like there but for the grace of god…ie if Scorsese didn't have the talent, luck, and friends he met, he’d be Rupert, the guy who daydreams and obsesses over a life he can never have. 2

I always felt The King of Comedy was special. Scorsese said he understood both Langford and Rupert. Rupert was the crazy movie fan who longed to make it big, Langford was the guy who achieved success but is lonely, who he became. 1/

It was pretty rare even for his generation and group. And you can sense the survivors guilt, especially when he talks of the funeral of his friend who died young from cancer. Like he seems haunted by gotten out and made it big, but always remembering the people left behind. 2
