The very stupid-on-its-face OU essay "scandal" is about forcing a trans person out of higher ed, and discussing the actual essay is acceding to the fascist framing of the issue and arguing on their terms.

Students get bad grades every day which, no matter how dubious, do not result in firings.

Matt Van Epps’ campaign did not remove his lawn signs from Lentz Public Health Center at the end of early voting, which is a bad sign for how attentive to detail he’ll be in Congress

Also someone has helpfully written “TINE” under his last name on the big one out by the main road.

Love this article but I’m a Maelle ending defender. If the takeaway is that the real world is more important, then I believe Alicia should be allowed to choose over anyone else. If you, like me, believe that the residents of Lumiere are just as real as the Dessendres, it’s immoral to erase them.

Clair Obscur absolutely rules for this. What is “real”?
it’s actually hilarious that the “flaw” with Clair Obscur is that the characters were so well-written that the twist upsets ppl because it basically implies they aren’t and weren’t ever “real.“ guess what they’re also characters in a video game. which is also the point of the twist and why i like it

My coworkers laughed when they heard a kid ask me why the group couldn’t do something and I simply told them “Because I don’t want to do that.”

To be fair, the kid respected the reasoning.

when i was 15 i was convinced i wasn’t good enough for my very pretty girlfriend so i did all her homework for her, which eventually included reading “slaughterhouse-five,” which immediately led to me ignoring the fuck out of my very pretty girlfriend as i read kurt vonnegut’s other 13 novels.
performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!

tell me about a book that changed you

for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"
