You play as the dead ghost of the already dead David trying to solve your own murder because nobody else cares to and probably we’re all in on it, because you’re the only normal person there. A screenshot of Lighthouse, an also abandoned game and a point and click adventure/visual novel where you try to reach the top of the lighthouse you work at because you had no other options in life available to you at the time. In this particular screenshot is a strange white cyclops creature in a drawer that looks like those wrist exerciser things telling you “Merry Christmas” annoyingly loudly. This is a piece of art where Butthead from Beavis and Butthead is drawn to look like Travis Touchdown from the No More Heroes 3 Day One Edition physical release cover art on consoles.

Recently deceased, our hero's spirit has been shackled to The Nexus, an arcane prison of sorts that hides deeper mysteries and demands grander ontological questions. Inscrutable runes paint The Nexus' ancient stone like cast shadows. Some force, barely visible, prevents descent into an infinite, abyssal cavern. Boldwin, a common blacksmith with an uncommon ailment, is a fellow lost soul, bound to The Nexus. His performative orneriness is a mask, betrayed by the pleading behind his eyes. Stone scales slowly consume him, a creeping damnation with only one end. The shimmering spirit of a fellow warrior haunts The Nexus, crestfallen, warning those who come after to avoid his folly. He points the path forward to our captive protagonist: The Archstone of the Small King, which casts users across the fog to the Boletarian Palace where the Mad King Allant awaits, heavily defended.

Large “EnviroChunks” with flexible triplanar materials quickly establish setting in the background of scenes. Gestural vertex colors quickly and beautifully define characters that pop against the environment and look good small or large onscreen. iNaturalist.org can be an amazing resource for game artists, featuring species id and many public domain community photos of life on Earth! Matcap materials are good for creating shiny or translucent objects while maintaining a simplified/stylized look.
