Anything that was in the East Wing either had a price Trump could pocket or they were worthless to him, and that's all that mattered to him.
Anyone check to see if the plaque is still at the FDR Memorial?

What happened to all the art, furniture and priceless historical treasures that were in the East Wing?

Did Trump just give it away to his buddies? Is it at Mar-a-Lago? Did Jared and Ivana just help themselves to it?

No one knows

“Thank you Mr. President, only you could have saved the planet by keeping the sun shining in the sky every day.”
You know it shouldn’t be just R’s who get to “flood the zone”. Even better when its not shit being flooded.
If the US disintegrates because of Trump, the R’s and MAGA, I’m sure Putin will feel bound to generously offer us all Russian passports in return.
I’m confident Trump would have still tried to do all this in the absence of SCOTUS-granted immunity because he doesn’t give a f*ck and feels entitled but there would have been a lot more pushback and fewer complicit toadies willing to risk prosecution later.
I’m sure the R’s can’t understand what the problem is, they know the first lady doesn’t need offices, just a big kitchen in the back of the ballroom where she can keep her trap shut and make hors d’oeuvres for the oligarchs.
If he wins the Dem primary won’t all the Nazi-adjacent R’s in ME vote for him too because they like the cut of his tattoo jib? Could become a blowout general election.
Can Dems play that game too?

Also Trump never pays for anything.

Also Trump always gets a taste -- who knows how overinflated the economics of his vanity ballroom are, with the difference passed under the WH residence door?

When he's done it will be a gold-paint encrusted shed with a cash bar and per-plate minimum donations.

Norms & duct tape. That's all the Republic has turned out to be, because the laws & the Constitution do not enforce themselves. There are about 30 people in Washington who can fix this. We should stop giving them free passes all day every day & laser-focus on getting them to do their damn jobs.
It is incredibly difficult to get folks to understand that there are literally 20-30 people in DC who could end all of this tomorrow, & all of them are Republicans in Congress, & no one in the National Conversation seems interested in paying attention to that.
NYT article just quoted Trump today: "And I will tell you, there are a lot of good Democrats that really want to make a deal, and all we need is five Democrats.”

In a sane world that would just mark *any* Democrats who cave as complicit in the destruction of our democracy as the Trump regime.
If there were even a hint of retaining anything of the East Wing before demolition, I'd expect a long delay needed for setting up barricades and dust barriers, capping utilities, identifying what will be protected, stabilization measures. None of that happened. Did they even remove anything first?

If the National Guard is really in D.C. to protect federal
property, they should probably have been at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. two days ago

This is the essence of the matter. In our interview, Jamie Raskin engages directly on this point -->
As Raskin says, by ordering his cronies to commit crimes, Trump makes them dependent on him to obtain pardons. Because the price of losing favor with the dictator in the Oval Office could well be a prison sentence, there's a huge incentive to do anything Trump wants, however repugnant it may be.
Finally: If Trump is hinting or outright demanding that DOJ give him $230 million in claims, how can any official who might be needing a pardon later say no to him? Reinforces the picture of all this as a kind of criminal syndicate. Raskin is strong on this here:

Awful: Trump's $230 million shakedown from DOJ can be paid to him confidentially at first, without the public ever finding out about it until later, Rep Jamie Raskin tells me.

Raskin will formally demand full communications between WH and DOJ on this.

New from me:

Trump’s Vile New $230 Million Shakedown of DOJ Just Got Even Worse
It’s bad enough that Trump wants—and DOJ will likely fork over—this tribute payment. Now, get this: It can probably be done at first without even being revealed publicly.

Not to be cringe, but I'm surprised I am emotional seeing the East Wing demolition. My first job in DC was interning and going to meetings there regularly. I learned everything about it while giving guided tours. The beauty of the East Wing is that everyone can go there. It's America's house.

As a young man I used to play with Microsoft Flight Simulator and the default opening airport you’d fly from was Chicago’s Meigs Field. I’ve never forgotten how devastated I was when the Chicago mayor destroyed the runway in the middle of the night before anyone could stop him. /1
