I agree. This quote from Adam Walton seems to sum it up best for me, "Mild autism doesn't mean I experience autism mildly. It means YOU experience my autism mildly."

Many of us have significant support needs in areas where no support is available or it's unreliable at best - like emotional regulation, that we are unable to do much stuff without assistance. If we don't have assistance, we don't do it and then if we don't do it, no one sees we have a support need.

You’re not mildly autistic.

This is going to be a tough take for some out there but that doesn’t exist.

I am sick and tired of seeing posts that describe themselves or others as mildly.

sometimes these men who are trying to "sound the alarm" about the threat really just sound like they're writing fanfic they're a little too into.

We're on track for a 2,000 whistle day tomorrow.

That's 2,000 MORE neighbors getting whistles to help protect our community.

We are overwhelmed in the best way.

We just opened a box of thousands of 3D printed whistles sent to us by comrades from other cities.

Thank you, 3D printer friends. We cried. Community care from far and wide.

It's that giving time of year again, so this is a reminder that no matter how they try to dress it up, the Salvation Army is not a charity.

1. A landmark study was just published in The Journal of Pediatrics.

It found a 68% reduction in suicidality for trans youth getting HRT.

It also found only 7 of more than 400 stopped taking HRT... and of those that did, 4 still identified as gender-diverse.

Transgender care saves lives.
Study In The Journal Of Pediatrics Finds Trans Youth Care Lowers Suicidality, Few Detransition
The groundbreaking study found that suicidality dropped for transgender youth receiving hormone therapy by nearly 70%, with only 7 patients of 432 discontinuing treatment.

Exactly! They’re perfectly capable of identifying special interests when it’s to police & punish #Autistics! They know the difference. We all know the difference, if we’re being honest.
Guarantee you these same people will not hesitate to complain when an autistic person infodumps about their special interest. 😒

Like, it’s pretty rich to hear “everyone has interests like that” when “restricted interests” are STILL a diagnostic criterion for autism in the DSM! #Autistic people are othered, mocked, pathologized & put in intensive therapy for this trait that “everyone” has.

I’ve seen people questioning if special interests are really an “ #Autistic thing,” or if everyone has them.

Funny, they never asked that back when special interests were pathologized as “restricted interests,” only once autistics started reclaiming them as a positive 🤔

Autistic liberation isn’t about being palatable.

It’s about refusing to contort ourselves into shapes that make everyone else’s life easier while destroying our own.

Your yearly reminder that “holiday” celebrations that only include Christian traditions are not, in fact, inclusive even if you don’t use the word Christmas, so tbh I’d rather you just say it’s Christmas.
Until a few years ago, ugly holiday sweaters didn’t exist. They’re ugly Christmas sweaters, with some generic Jewish iconography to be “inclusive.” But the truth is, when I have to buy one to wear to a work party, I feel like I’m in another culture’s drag.

"Autism isn't an excuse."

No it's not. It's an explanation.

"No. You're using it as an excuse. You should have known the thing you did was unacceptable."

Except I didn't. And I'm explaining why.

Any time I visit a national park, I make sure to email the hotel I stayed at afterward to ask them to invest in dark sky lighting. Light pollution is easily fixable.
Lots of folks captioning aurora photos like "for a few minutes we didn't think about politics"

guess I'm built different, every time I'm out trying to see night sky stuff I frequently think about how much light pollution is entirely preventable with just a tiny bit of regulation

Grateful to spend two days on the Klamath watching chinook, liberated by dam removal, return to streams from which they’d been precluded since the Titanic sank. Fish are everywhere, in numbers that stagger the mind & locations that biologists figured would take years to repopulate. Too beautiful.

Autism is a social disability
It's also a sensory disability

What it isn't is an empathy disability
Or a rigidity disability
Or an intellectual disability

Breaking this one down because not all of this is self explanatory...

Nah, y'all. It's a job 100 people out of the ~350 million in this country can have at one time. He has to prove he is worthy and MOST PEOPLE CAN NOT.

*I can

My extremely lukewarm take is that contemporary normative Islam and contemporary normative rabbinic Judaism have way more in common with each other than the latter has with Christianity and particularly American Protestantism.
I am always bummed when I see Islamaphobia coming from the Jewish community. Every conversation I have had about religion with a Muslim colleague or friend has only highlighted our similarities or deepened my understanding of our shared stories.

It's also ok to be disabled and to be noticeably disabled in public without giving people explanations or awareness lessons everywhere you go.

It's a wide world. People don't need to know everything about everyone.
