Three weeks ago I marked nine years on Testosterone.

I didn't celebrate it then because I was in the middle of a multi-month battle to be allowed to stay on it, despite not producing my own hormones and simply wanting to remain on the exact prescription I'd had for nine years without any problems.

The letter from the 16 year old girl included in this is... I don't actually have words adequate, I feel so much for her and I despise this evil government for doing this to people. 1/

The absolutely monumental expectations heaped upon queer indie authors to write flawlessly watertight queer rep that will somehow make everyone happy, for minimal pay, whilst established names can push whatever they damn well please out to lucrative mainstream media is INCREASINGLY grating.

I cannot imagine having to do Thanksgiving AS WELL as Christmas (let me be clear: I do not Do Christmas but capitalism makes it impossible to escape) best wishes to all good Americans who Are Not Into It today.

Finally watched the 2025 Superman and considering I am pretty over superhero films, it is actually as good as everyone's said. Like, they really did not hold back with the metaphors. I teared up more than once. A real old fashioned fairytale - imagine, a billionaire being held accountable!

This is a GREAT thread and what I've been yelling for years.
I don't think we're going to have a successful Amazon boycott till we break their monopoly on indie books.

They have a clever strategy to build their monopoly, which any functional government would have banned: if you want your indie book listed in Kindle Unlimited, you have to be exclusive. 🧵

How about anyone who refuses to pay the absolute pittance most indie authors charge for a book is a class traitor for not supporting other low-income people?
I offer my ebooks for free to anyone who genuinely cannot afford them, most authors will give free copies in exchange for reviews. No excuse.
Just saw someone claim that authors who want to be paid for their work are "class traitors" because we "only let the wealthy" read our books, and I think I need to go into the woods to scream into the night for a bit.

It's $5, not your first-born child! I need that $5 for health insurance!

I would rather 50 people got benefits they didn't need than 1 went without food or shelter.
Hot take maybe but I actually don’t give a shit about benefit fraud.

I give a shit about multimillionaires and billionaires existing and not paying tax on their actual wealth.

Most writers I know aren't tortured artists. They're exhausted administrators who occasionally remember they like sentences. Emails, forms, and spreadsheets are the real villains in this story.

So, my friend is currently on a big crochet kick and she just unveiled these two little guys, she has not seen OFMD and has no context for why I found them so entertaining! (She did give permission for me to share the pics though, and to shout out Complicated Knots on Youtube for the pattern)

I've just emailed my MP to tell them what nature means to me and that I want it to stay protected. Will you take action too?

Might try and write to my useless Tory MP again about this - she doesn't care about Palestine, immigrants, trans people or disabled people, but perhaps she'll care about nature given she's obsessed with farms.
Last night the Government steamrollered its Planning Bill through, slamming the door on vital protections for nature.

They said it would be a ‘win-win’ for the economy and nature.

But in reality, they’ve pushed nature into last place.

They treat nature like it has no voice.

But it does. Yours, ours, and millions more.

If you believe nature deserves better than this, make sure your MP hears it loud and clear:

"She explained that the prosecution used female pronouns to refer to the complainant during the trial, while Linehan's defence used male pronouns. The judge said she had chosen to refer to Brooks using "gender neutral pronouns and as 'the complainant'" in her ruling." Everyone gets to choose this 1/
It looks like that BBC page has been updated in the last few minutes, so that's no longer the last sentence. I think part of it has been moved to this paragraph in the middle of the article, and the age is no longer mentioned:

UK folk, cancel your TV license.
In the span of a hour, they stealth edited the article from trans woman to "biological male who identifies as a woman." The BBC isn't fit for purpose.

Obviously there are historical analogies - in the UK, penny dreadful, Victorian/Edwardian serialised fiction, etc

But the sheer VOLUME of (sometimes) bloated texts - the very long novel, the 30-book series - is definitely pegged to conditions created by our current digital-capitalist ecosystem

Absolutely this

Likewise, the Amazon-prompted explosion of VERY multi-instalment novel series can be read as a response to the material conditions in which a lot of writers/small presses are trying to scratch a living (via KU page reads as well as sales, achieved via 4-books/year churn)
