Moral panics and legal projects: echoes of Section 28 in United Kingdom transgender discourse and law reform
A grounding in the queer history of the legal system in the United Kingdom reveals striking parallels between the moral panic leading to the enactment of Section 28 of the Local Government Act 1988, a...

I am impressed that Your Party have somehow managed to communicate via national mainstream media the feeling of being in an interminably feuding local political organizers WhatsApp with so many daily notifications that it's impossible to keep track of the feuds

We shed as we pick up, like travelers who must carry everything in their arms, and what we let fall will be picked up by those behind. The procession is very long and life is very short. We die on the march. But there is nothing outside the march so nothing can be lost to it.

I am very emotional but also very busy today, and I have exhausted the capacities for reassurance of my wife (also busy) and my parents ('just get on with it,' but kindly) so if I am Posting a lot it's because I need kind human interaction.

This is an excellent thread, and if I might add, with care, that I think our academic staff are also all exhausted as well, by so many things that were not always a part of their role, as well as the pressure and precariousness of academia. Students feel that, too - the whole environment is fraught.
I have been reading all the "students these days" threads from various sides and I have an essay's worth of thoughts -- there's a lot of complexity and heterogeneity that is hard to communicate on social media. There are a couple of things I will say here though. 1/

A genuine left choice in this country would be amazing. Unfortunately, etc.
The thing is I'm not rooting against socialist movements. It's GUTTING that YP can't get their shit together. I wanted them to succeed. I am a socialist transfeminist, I didn't /want/ to be for their downfall!

I will not let techbros take vibe as a methodology from me... a vibe is intuitive, collective, performative (Butler sense & theatrical), deliberately elusive iykyk. It is not laziness or privileged assumption.

"While I see the risk to queerness- a flattening, a subsumption-in meeting the law, I maintain that the queer will survive through its will and its wilfulness; its playfulness in method, its engagement with the outsider, its verbosity, its reproduction otherwise, and its sidelong view of the world."
I'm afraid I'm going to be told by Very Serious Reviewers that I'm essentially doing vibes-based analysis here but Queer IS a vibe, it's a method, it's a playfulness, it doesn't get shut down when one avenue is thwarted - Queer reproduces otherwise, Queer adapts, Queer survives.

Trying to find a way to argue back against Kapur's assertion that ihrl essentially subsumes the radicality of queer law back into homonormativity, and just wanting to point at @lawsadrag.bsky.social and yell 'look over there!'

It feels minor in the grand scheme of things, but Cornish getting Part III status is welcome news.

I've always been an advocate for the preservation of minority languages & the culture they foster, and this goes a long way to helping protect & revive a language that was considered dead until 2010.
Milestone for Cornish language after securing Part III status alongside Welsh and Gaelic
It officially recognises the importance of Cornish as a living language and a core part of Cornwall’s cultural identity

This ongoing genocide shows us that international law will be a sham until it can deal with atrocities in real time and prevent the loss of life and living that is happening in Gaza.
Yet the attacks continue unabated, tents are flooded, and people are left homeless, their every attempt at stability and security thwarted.

World, Israel is deceiving you, trampling on your humanity, breaking every promise, and failing to implement any of the agreed-upon terms.
