With all due respect, God does not care about your performance in a sporting event.

You are not, in fact, His worldly agent carrying out a divine punishment of Texas A&M.

Standing on my head begging pleading threatening students to NOT use it. LLMs strealing MY work. A giant waste of MY time and energy because you tech bros have no capacity for critical thinking or respect for learning and scholarship. The absolute audacity you have to say this is nauseating!

You have literally no understanding of what you and your ilk have unleashed in our world of teaching and scholarship in the humanities and social sciences. I have spent hundreds of hours over the last year dealing with problems generated by your "invention." Reinventing my classes.
Have you considered that perhaps you’re not entirely objective when it comes to this subject?

There is no way in tin can hell I wouldn’t throw something at this guy.
As soon as homeboy says “We are taking this flight over for Jesus” and stands up with his guitar, I’m smashing that stewardess button so hard.

I know from a fair bit of experience that these in-your-face guitar proselytizers are smug, insufferable twerps who haven’t been told “No” enough times.
This Guy Sang Christian Worship Songs Mid-Flight, and People Are Fuming
The Singaporean strummed his guitar as he belted out a worship song on an EasyJet flight out of Poland, where he was volunteering with Ukrainian refugees.

everything we see about the 1970s focuses on the flash and glitter of the decade. there isn't much media that centers on the stagflation of the decade and the collapse of the nation's industrial base. (one reason that SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER is still worth watching is it is *about* the latter)

I also now specify that a 3 credit course means 6 hours of outside work, citing the handbook. This also introduces them to the handbook.

Part of the issue here is faculty develop their own courses - it takes a lot of time and effort to do so - but if the university owns the syllabi they could fire me but keep all of that work and have someone else to teach the course *I* built.

Replacing TT with adjuncts the obvious application.

To be clear, a standard part of job applications are providing sample syllabi - often a whole portfolio of them - because *your syllabi* are part of the value proposition of hiring *you* and not *someone else.*

Now the university wants to steal your materials, then sack and replace you.

Or, of course, give you up as a burnt offering to the anti-woke online-hate brigade if your syllabus says anything even vaguely interesting.

I think the malicious compliance way to address this is to write everything in the syllabus in boilerplate language, quoting from official university documents where possible, and providing nothing but bland descriptions of the course content next to a potential reading list.

If UNC is claiming that course syllabi are its own intellectual property and posting them to the web to automate the harassment process, then good luck getting instructors to include anything beyond these items
Info that must be posted:
1. Class name
2. Goals
3. Grading info
4. Materials required for purchase
5. (This is new) "A statement noting that the course engages diverse scholarly perspectives to develop critical thinking, analysis, and debate[,] and inclusion of a reading does not imply endorsement"

If universities want to be the copyright owner of syllabi, they — not the instructors — should also be the ones on hook when a student complains about the content of the syllabi.
UNC says syllabi are "directed works...developed w/in the scope of an instructor’s employment and under institutional direction." That makes UNC the copyright owner of syllabi. Also, they are now public records.

However, faculty can request to opt out of public-records requests in some instances.

This is the institutionalization of Turning Point's professor watchlist. It invites mass harassment and declares war on independent ideas. If unlearned sociopaths can influence your teaching through threats, academic freedom is essentially dead.
It’s the entire point. There’s no plan to make this meaningful for students. No plan to use it administratively. Its design and implementation signals its only real intent. It’s best and easiest use case is for systematic harassment and to scare faculty into complying in advance.
We know the students don’t read the syllabuses. So who will? Right-wing activists looking for excuses to hound profs.
