A tale of China in two parts. 1. What does China want from the world? "There is nothing that China wants to import, nothing it does not believe it can make better and cheaper, nothing for which it wants to rely on foreigners a single day longer than it has to." 1/2
China is making trade impossible
Europe has nothing to offer and difficult decisions to make

"When a doctor told me I’d come close to dying, and that the play had to stop using real knives, I remember thinking: “You just don’t understand theatre.”

😳
Experience: I was stabbed in the back with a real knife while performing Julius Caesar
Our student theatre group had the bright idea of using actual knives on stage for authenticity. The blade missed my aorta by about a centimetre

First Scotland, now Australia. Somehow I suspect it will be a long time before the US reaches this state.
Australia just recorded zero cervical cancer cases in women under 25 for the first time since records began in 1982. The amazing result of HPV vaccination.

Over 10 days reporters have keep their mouth shut and said nothing because they were 'worried' about losing access, instead of wondering what the country thinks of their self respect and support of female reporters.

I never understood how Meta lost this suit either. Cory Doctorow explains how Zuck can write everything down explaining how buying WhatsApp and Instagram was to crush competition and form a monopoly, and yet he STILL wins his case. There's something seriously wrong with our legal system.

Asked ChatGPT: "If you were the devil, how would you destroy the next generation, without them even knowing it?"

"Chat’s responses were profound and unsettling: “I wouldn’t come with violence. I’d come with convenience.” “I’d keep them busy. Always distracted.” Basically phones. #socialmedia

I asked ChatGPT how it would destroy America’s youth. Its answers were unsettling—and all too familiar, writes Jonathan Haidt.

Every single congressional Democrat needs to be out there, right now, insisting that Pete Hegseth resign right now and announcing that he will be held accountable for committing war crimes.

If you do not demand accountability here and now, they will only become more emboldened.
Exclusive: Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth gave an order to “kill everybody” in the first strike on suspected drug boats in the Caribbean. After two men survived, the mission commander ordered a second strike to comply with Hegseth’s instructions, according to two sources.

If the US won’t hold a war crime trial, pretty sure The Hague could, even without the US being a signatory to the court.

If it's true, if the US is willing to allow borders to be redrawn by force and let aggressors be rewarded, then the gates of hell are about to be opened.

This may prove to be the single most destabilizing and conflict-spawning decision of the 21st century.

A truly Black Friday.

In my political fantasy, we get Trump's actual medical records and use his 2025 stroke and mild/moderate Alzheimer's dementia diagnosis to invalidate every single decision made in his name during his presidency bc they were actually made by unelected staff.
There is no constitutionally legitimate scenario in which we are being de facto governed by the White House Deputy Chief of Staff using a half-dead president as his sock puppet. We went out of our way to amend the Constitution on precisely this point.

The shadow fleet also consists of a lot of old decrepit tankers, so I wouldn’t rule anything out including poor maintenance until there’s more data.

I heard that Mamdani used to do it before elected mayor, so kudos to him for keeping up this tradition. And for those making snide remarks, well, they always need volunteers, so go ahead & help.
