"A few years ago I received a DM from Zohran Kwame Mamdani. Only recently did I discover its existence. It was a very unusual DM—especially coming from a local assemblyman who would soon be running for higher office. He had very little name recognition at the time, and could have benefited from publicity. But unlike the thousands of messages I’ve received from people with something to promote, Zohran did not ask to be featured on Humans of New York. Instead he asked if he could introduce me to taxi drivers that were struggling beneath the burden of debt. Coming from a man with political ambitions, this self-denying request was so strange as to be almost singular. I don’t endorse politicians on Humans of New York. But I’ll endorse a good man. And it was a good man who cleared 30 minutes from his schedule yesterday to swing by Grand Central and visit Dear New York’s Vanderbilt Hall Exhibition. Nearly fifty-student artists were visiting that day with their families, and I thought a surprise visit from this widely-loved future mayor would be a special memory for all of them. Before Zohran’s arrival I was convinced I’d made a terrible mistake. The exhibit was filled to capacity with adult visitors. Dear New York is self-funded so there was very little staff and security for crowd control. In the crush of people I was almost certain this special day for the kids would devolve into thirty minutes of selfie requests. But everyone rose to the occasion."

If you're all about saving time, then AI looks a lifesaver, unless you didn't check the quality of the work afterwards. I'm just impressed the judge recognized they were fake, as the lawyer didn't.

This is a legitment concern. I have a friend who delayed his ceremony because of work and by the time they got round to it, they (the feds) lost his paperwork. As he was moving his family to the UK (to be closer to aging parents) they had to abandon his case.

So if I've understood this correctly, the Indian Navy is congratulating the US Navy's 250th birthday (and my 55th) via a US representative? Or, more realistically, someone search in his office for ships in Wikimedia and didn't check what navy was associated with them before posting? 🤦‍♂️

After being forced to put the money back, instead of directly giving money to the four programs that are part of a national network helping students who are deaf and blind, Dpt of Edu has instead rerouted the grants to a different organization that will provide funding( cynic says what's the grift?)

Bert had connections to everyone in the high energy physics community, and was also an amateur actor, something he used to do while at Berkley with Stacy Keach. Apparently Keach told Bert he was the better actor. "I knew he was lying" chuckled Bert but "but it was nice to hear." RIP.

Just heard that Bert Schwarzschild passed away last week in his sleep at age 90. He had been ill for some time. Bert was one of the longest serving editors at Physics Today, and one of the best editors I knew at taking what looked like a garbled mess and turn it into something worthwhile to read.

And the winning continues with infectious diseases spreading uncontrollably, so much so some schools have to close due to outbreaks, but don't worry, it won't be a known problem anymore because we fired most of the people monitoring it.
