McDonald's gave us a Ronald McDonald/"Dark Night of the Scarecrow" crossover toy years ago, and most of us just ignored it. Part of the Ronald and Pals Haunted Halloween Happy Meal Toys from 1998, they are probably my favorite of the seasonal Happy meal offerings.

The arcade game Tempest is 44 years old this month. A beautiful, but challenging game, I still can't resist playing it all these years later even though I haven't really gotten better at it.

While smaller-sized individually wrapped candy bars have become associated with Halloween, Fun Size bars weren't invented just to sell at this time of year. Their history involves economics, safety, lawsuits, AND Halloween.

40 years ago this month, Teddy Ruxpin, the world-famous talking teddy bear started hitting store shelves. Highly anticipated, it would be one the hottest toys of the Christmas of 1985.

He is really good in it. Well-cast. Gene Simmons is also surprisingly understated and grounded.

It might be the most unexpected thing I have ever seen in a horror film.

You need even more convincing to see Trick or Treat (1986)? How about an unexpected cameo by ShowBiz Pizza Legend, Billy Bob.

Another reason to watch Trick or Treat (1986) and listen to the podcast? The world famous Orange and Yellow Flowers Paper Cup makes an appearance in the cafeteria scene.

On an all new episode the Retroist Podcast I talk about the 1986 heavy metal-infused horror classic, Trick or Treat. Filled with great music and fun cameos, this movie is very rewatchable and should be a Halloween staple.

On this day 37 years ago Freddy's Nightmares (also known as A Nightmare on Elm Street: The Series) premiered. On the show, Freddy acted as host, introducing the stories. Not perfect, but a great way to get your Freddy fix between films.

A lot of first timers in the theater. I was listening to them talk about the movie in the lobby. Great to hear people passionate about movies.
