So either Schumer agreed to fold like a lawn chair and is using these spineless chumps as cover or he is incapable of enforcing meaningful cohesion and discipline among Dems when they have everything to gain from being united. Either way it means he is unfit leadership for this moment.
Shaheen: "We kept Senator Schumer informed throughout bipartisan discussions that have really gone on since the beginning of the shutdown."

I received this email about Democrats caving to end the shutdown from one of the SNAP recipients I spoke to:

The average SNAP benefit per month is $177 a person.

The average ACA benefit per month is up to $550 a person.

People want us to hold the line for a reason. This is not a matter of appealing to a base. It’s about people’s lives.

And working people want leaders whose word means something to them.

we can chalk it up to youth and inexperience but the biggest mistake the mamdani campaign made was winning by 8.8% and not 1.5%, which is the margin needed for the media to say it’s a total mandate

I think the USAID cuts and anti-vaccine stuff gives Trump a higher body count, but the Bush guys internalized the idea that right wing media could insulate them from normal electoral accountability and the second Trump term is directly downstream from that.
This NYT Obit of VP Cheney mentions something that seems impossible in retrospect: That he and GWB were re-elected *after* it was proved there were no WMDs in Iraq.

Very bad news. Teen Vogue was doing work other journalists were not.
I was laid off from Teen Vogue today along with multiple other staffers, and today is my last day.

certainly more to come from me when the dust has settled more, but to my knowledge, after today, there will be no politics staffers at Teen Vogue.

As I spend this Halloween reflecting on the nature and worth of entities we choose to represent, I turn to the ideal of Spider-Man for what I wish to embody through the next year. Determined, optimistic, clever, and, above all, altruistic at all costs.

i really resent the continued assertion that there’s so much anger on both sides, as if the causes of the anger are equally legitimate. we’re angry because masked maniacs are violently snatching our family and neighbors off the street, and they’re angry because we’re calling them out for it.

So,additional thought on this: "Using grammar and the rules of language accurately clearly shows you didn't write it" is an undercurrent of these accusations and that is... very telling about the state of writing comprehension these days.
