There’s this bizarre thing in England where right wing people pretend to have lived thru things they did not. The boomers all pretended to have lived thru the blitz, and now we got Xers like that guy pretending he grew up in the 50s before football hooligan culture. It’s genuinely bizarre

The cybertruck is so fascinating to me because the whole original appeal of Tesla is that it was an electric car that looked like a typical up market sedan instead of like some dork ass hippiemobile. You could drive one without being conspicuous.

Kaepernick thing is a weird Pyrrhic victory for those types because they blackballed Kaep but 1) owners wrote a fat check and 2) the number of black QBs drafted exploded after the settlement, and it appears largely because owners stopped blocking teams from drafting them for fear of another suit.

It’s also hard to separate from there being genuine anger among that generation that the car culture they worshipped as young people is totally dead. Like even their own right wing kids don’t really give a shit about cars.

The presence of private insurance allows medical practitioners and hospitals to drive up to cost of care by bidding them against each other. “Well X Inc paid $9k for the MRI, why don’t you Y Inc?”

In a single payer America, all that ends and the cost of procedures is set by the one payer.

Not always, it just means the people in charge don’t have any real skin in the game to keep it alive and are more likely to take risky action. But UFC was a leveraged buyout too and the company is still here. It just means full steam ahead on profits and if we break something and it dies oh well.

Saudi isn’t really doing all this stuff to launder their reputation. They’re doing this because clean energy is coming for them and they’ve got to use their current stack of money to find new goldmines while they can. Best analogy is AOL desperately looking for a big media company to buy in 1998
