You can’t tell if someone is disabled just by looking at them.

There’s no such thing as the “genuinely disabled”.

You are not entitled to a person’s entire medical history just so you can decide whether to believe them or not.

People are not faking disability, most are trying to fake being well.

Oh look, it's that well-meaning motivation that makes it harder for people with disabilities to get accommodations just in case we might be cheating. I thought this was long-since-debunked, but I guess not.
Balancing "no person with a disability should be denied accommodations" with "it's important to discourage non-disabled people from pretending to be disabled to take advantage of these accommodations" is really difficult and I don't have a great answer for what anyone should do about it.

So here’s the thing: I, a certified Disabled™️ Person, do not actually care if anyone fakes for an extra 20 minutes on the test. I care deeply about how the fear of that very thing puts up flaming hoops disabled people have to jump through.

Maybe listen to disabled folk on this one.

How autistic girls and women get shortchanged
The decades-old misconception that autism is a "male or boy thing" has left a lot of women in the lurch, an academic says.

My family has been without half our income for 40 days. It has been.. very hard.

We are willing to feel that pain so people can have health care next year, or to undo these illegal recissions.

We are not willing to have been put through this for NOTHING.

In case you missed it, I recently posted the children’s book version of this meeting on my Patreon. Read it for free at the link below.
It’s been 1 year since a little orange fluffball climbed my leg in the parking lot at work. Since then Dandy has grown to be a part of Spike’s and my family. She’s also gained a bunch of aunts and uncles here and I hope has brought some joy into the world. Happy Gotcha Day Dandy!

Python foundation said no and rejected the grant.

Related to my last post: please, spay and neuter your pets. It can prevent conditions like that one. If you are struggling to pay for it, look for low cost spay/neuter clinics or other resources in your area that can help.

Fellow journalists: I will not quote Alison Singer of the Autism Science Foundation as an autism expert because of the harm she's caused. Maybe you shouldn't either.
When autism grievance parents complain that autistic people and their families don’t have enough supports? They’re right. But their solutions are wrong, because as outsiders to the autistic community they are trying to fix problems they don’t understand.

Yep, still don't regret canceling the NYT.
The @nytimes.com has a new article on " #ProfoundAutism," featuring the same grievance parents they always feature—and minimal autistic input. Pls counter with our explanation of why autistic kids deserve better representation than parents who resent them.

Grievance-Based Parent Organizations Are Autism's MAGA Movement — THINKING PERSON'S GUIDE TO AUTISM
Horrified by the misinformation peddled by MAGA truthers? You should be just as concerned about grievance-based autism parent orgs.

Also always disappointing to see people who are disabled being hostile toward others who are disabled with literally no provocation. You actually can talk to or even disagree with people online without being condescending or insulting, believe it or not!

Of course people with autism who can speak for themselves and advocate for how they're treated are labeled activists. The mothers leading orgs pushing the manufactured controversy are profiled as parents rather than activists.

This is the same exact framing they used against trans people.

My intellect makes me seem "high functioning", so I get overlooked for support I absolutely need and blamed when I can't do things or struggle without support because I'm supposed to be "high functioning".
