Wore the special glasses this morning. Downtown Portland, 5th & Washington.
A row of paste up posters on a plywood wall in the style of the movie, “They Live.” Large italic sans serif type reads, DON’T OBEY. A black & white woodcut style image of a frog’s head in the center.

Please be conscious if you protest this weekend that there are feds at the protest. They look like you and they sound like you, not like Steve Buscemi in that one clip with the skateboard. Thinking you can spot them is self delusion. Nobody you haven’t met needs to know your last name.

Muslim clerics have deemed AI-generated imagery of people ‘haram’ or forbidden. And they told you shariah law would be your undoing.

I don't know how many times to point out that is absolutely ghoulish and non-consensual and disgusting behavior.
To exploit the image of a dead woman who was also exploited in real life so you can live out your momentary fantasies of "what is possible" with AI is bad science journalism, also.
Sick.

Marilyn Monroe in Game of Thrones? AI Could Make It Happen Soon

Despite early, and familiar, copyright growing pains, Sora may be the prelude to AI-generated on-demand TV and movies

Screenshot includes an AI generated image of what looks like a human cross between Daenaerys Targaryen and Marilyn Monroe on the back of a dragon.

There is no ethical consumption under capitalism is reductionist but also real. In a perfect world, you wave resources to research & reach out to vetted local/regional brands that could use your boost. Not sure if you’re in a position to do that but food for thought.

TIL some local history of this iconic poster as well as more about the deep historical roots of “the Portland vibe” or whatever you call it. Great 🧵 from a multi-gen Portland’s & historian.

Makes me love my adopted home town even more.

Here is a poster that hung in my house my entire life, and which my mom gave to me when we moved to CT. The photo in it was taken in downtown Portland in 1978, and the man in it was a bar owner at the time - six years later he became the Mayor.

THIS is Portland humor, which is not new!

Same. Also, there are none in inner SE that are conveniently walk-bikeable. I have to drive up to Dishman at the crack of dawn.

After cleaning up the mess of our spit takes… Consider that there is possibly a very scared real person in their evil clutches who is enduring a nightmare so absurd and malevolent it would make Terry Gilliam blush. Let’s maybe dig into that.

I haven’t played a RPG/FP game since the days of Doom. I can tell you that not only would I have bought and played the hell out of this, if necessary I would have upgraded my rig, bought controller etc to do so. You miss all the pitches you don’t swing at Ubisoft.

Tuesday is the 7th best day of the week. And I slept like 💩 and am dragging my ass to the office (thanks Mayor Wilson!) but at least I have glorious full moon to look at in the dawn west.
A full moon in the pink sky of dawn setting over tree-lined streets with telephone lines and a green traffic signal.
