You have to love people in need more than you hate the other side, even when the other side is full of malice. You have to want progress more than you want vindication of a world view or the intoxication of self-righteousness. Otherwise, it's not activism--just ego.

It feels especially gross for Marilyn Monroe, a woman whose life and image never seemed to be fully her own, to be the example used here.

Trump controls the White House, the Supreme Court and Congress. The only thing he doesn't control is public opinion. That's why the Trump regime is so worried about this coming Saturday's "No Kings" protests – so worried that it's blatantly lying about "No Kings" and showing itself to be pro-king.

When it comes to people who believe in democracy and pluralism, we can argue, compromise, live to fight another day, etc. That's why we can all be friends with Bill Kristol now. But when it comes to fascists, you simply have to outnumber and out organize them because they will not be convinced.

Nothing Ramaswamy says matters because he is definitionally illegitimate and can only be here at all by the grace of the white men who he is challenging by seeking power over them. Pandering to that delusion, as Klein advises, gains you nothing, as Ramaswamy is about to learn for the 2nd time.
coffeenfingernails.bsky.social
because none of the people here are particularly interested in finding common ground, and they certainly don't believe in democracy. What they've learned from Charlie Kirk and the organization he built is that the only value worth respecting is that of deference to white Christian men.
coffeenfingernails.bsky.social
being vulnerable and respectful as he tries to find common ground with a room full of ppl who are showing him contempt. There's some value to that if the people you're talking to are interested--either out of principle or necessity--in finding common ground with you. But Ramaswamy is doomed to fail
coffeenfingernails.bsky.social
Contemplating this clip in the context of the mythologizing of Charlie Kirk and how Ezra Klein and other erstwhile pro-democracy liberals have completely lost the fucking plot. What Ramaswamy is doing here is what Klein and others are pretending Kirk was doing--

Last day in Rome, got bad news, was sitting in the park, moping. The guy renting segues to tourists offered me a free hour and ofc I went into "♀️ traveling alone" hi alert. He laughed, "Americans are so suspicious! You looked sad, I like to make ppl happy!" And for 1 lovely hr I forgot my troubles.

I think this would feel less unrealistic if young people could also imagine keypads (or, god forbid, rotary phones). The act of dialing a number every time you called someone put it in your head. As a kid, I thought of address books as something for old people who could no longer remember things.

If anyone needs me I will be in the museum, lying down next to the bog bodies.
Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?
2? Questions
I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

Not at all surprised. Gemini is constantly appearing offering to summarize my Google drive or help me "refine" a 2 sentence email. It's basically turned Google suite into the worst pop-up-riddled local news site you've ever seen.

boost your user satisfaction and growth with this one weird trick (removing the shit everyone hates that you added for no reason)
r/SaaS
u/soasme
I deleted ALL AI features... and user growth went UP.

Everyone's busy adding Al to everything.
I did the same for indie10k.com but it didn't work.
I removed all of fancy Al stuff - Al coach, Al growth ideas, Al "personalized" advice - everything.
Guess what?
I see more registered users and higher retention.
That actually make me wonder why now i have one page with one button, without all that Al thingy, but it does better?
Here's my question:
Is Al feature actually helping SaaS grow?

The end of federal enforcement of special ed laws. Some states - including MN - will likely be ok. But a lot of disabled kids in a lot of states are going to lose the education that federal law and decades of jurisprudence say they are owed.

Look, this is what Catholicism does so well. Yes girl, BRING OUT THE MONSTRANCE. MAKE THEM SAY IT IN FRONT OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT. Martin Luther could *never*. He failed to predict the Trump Presidency and also is directly implecated. I am so serious.

He believes the Armageddon will be ushered in by an antichrist-type figure who cultivates a fear of existential threats such as climate change, Al and nuclear war to amass inordinate power. The idea is this figure will convince people to do everything they can to avoid something like a third world war, including accepting a one-world order charged with protecting everyone from the apocalypse that implements a complete restriction of technological progress. In his mind, this is already happening. Thiel said that international financial bodies, which make it more difficult for people to shelter their wealth in tax havens, are one sign the antichrist may be amassing power and hastening Armageddon, saying: "It's become quite difficult to hide one's money."
