"Laughtivism" is very successful in undermining autocrats. It was used by Otpor! in the Serbian Revolution, and then by revolutionaries in the Arab Spring. Making fascists look ridiculous weakens them and is also a powerful recruiting tool. Keep it up.

I had an undergrad prof who brought in someone else to teach the Waste Land because, as he told us, he hated Eliot. It was a revelation! You're allowed to hate a writer/work while still acknowledging it's place in the canon? RIP Bink Noll, you were a real one.

See also the eugenics of people like Trump -- there's a very clear analogue in white rich people marriage patterns. Said manager drove me crazy, but I did kind of understand her after a lifetime of being the poor kid in rich people's houses.

I love Joyce, but he does require a lot of outside knowledge (Ireland, Catholicism, Empire). I never even tried the Wake because life is short. Faulkner, people love! I find him stultifying but he has a gothic quality that can be fun and he does shit with sentences that no one else does.

We once had an interesting convo at dinner, when she admitted to having an arranged marriage. "Oh," I said. "My people do that too, we just call it the debutante circuit." (I grew up broke but w/social capital in that class). It's the same all around, keep the $$ and power in the same 12 families.

He's so much more interesting than his self-generated mythos though, because he was trying so hard to cover for his sexual amorphism. See also: Gloria Hemingway (born Gregory).
Also, as a stylist, he's fundamental to a number of later writers (see Didion).

My semi-feral late black cat, I'd sit cross legged on the floor with her slightly trapped in my legs. Pry open her jaws, stuff it down and hold her mouth closed until she swallowed.
It got easier the firmer and swifter I got.

Not at all! Hospital chaplains and even Deacons can administer the Host -- it just has to be sanctified by a Priest.
