I can’t stress this enough: you cannot understand politics without reading this paragraph about why there’s no such thing as a 1/3rd pound hamburger

Medieval salt-glazed birds from the Wawel in Krakow.
Can’t fault your selections👍 I’m a big fan of the demos too, they really allow her to shine. Such a loss. ❤️

One of my favourite editions of darkly delightful visual magic is Edward Gorey’s Dracula, a special edition adapted as a magnificent toy theater of die-cut foldups and foldouts. Stoker did write a play based on the novel but it was never performed in front of a real audience.
Saw this as part of a toy theatre segment of a UK TV show - not singled out but instantly recognisable as Gorey! Still available to buy👍

you can tell migrants are failing to culturally assimilate when they get arrested, tried and punished immediately for sex offences rather than being given a slightly smaller royal estate to live in

This one is a big deal, in my view. Potentially marks an end to Thatcher-era deregulation of the buses across England. And it's the law as of last night: bylinetimes.com/2025/10/28/a...

A wee nugget here regarding Dounreay which may have slipped under the radar: "The full decontamination of the site is expected to take *more than 300 years*"

12 generations. I wonder if they'll have "allowed" us another independence referendum by then.

Exactly this. Insanity. Macro thinking driven by big money motivated by profit rather than looking at what is the problem and what is the lightest touch, person centred, biosphere friendly option that would reduce inequality and anxiety overall
It is going to cost over £35 billion to build one single nuclear power station. For that price you could put a £2,000 battery in every other home in the country to use cheap off peak energy and cut demand and the need for backup power stations there just for peak demand.
'Starmer has created a taskforce to streamline #nuclear safety regulation, but has offered no evidence that delays and cost escalation at Hinkley Point C are in any way attributable to opposition or obstructive regulation— he cannot because there is none.'

The government backs Heathrow expansion — but it’s not all or most of Britain that wants to fly more.

Just 3% of people take 30% of all flights. A few frequent flyers get the perks, while everyone else gets the noise, air pollution and climate chaos.

Ideally, the thing that finally brings down the Royal Family would be the British public finally waking up to the insulting obscenity of a hereditary monarchy at the top of our system, which laughs in the face of any notion of a meritocratic society.

But this will do.

I beg everyone - & especially governments, press and public institutions - to STOP using X/Twitter, now & start using BlueSky, instead. I've literally been saying this for years.

Why would anyone use a tool that's built to be beneficial to a malicious enemy?
Musk has transformed one of the world’s largest social media sites and source of news into an attack platform to assist a hostile foreign power during the biggest and bloodiest war in Europe since World War Two.
