This is about why I, a devout pacifiist, am promoting the rearming of Europe #RearmEU.
It's clear to me that, to maintain a state of peace, one needs to be protected against external forces of evil, with a capability of attacking.

Yes, many European countries had a colonial empire. What I want to say is, that this mindset of exceptionalism has not disappeared - not yet.

I believe that concentration camps already existed long before 1800. This article only gives some examples of those camps before WW II, but the large-scale murder of prisoners of war and ordinary citizens has been going on for thousands of years whether that happened in concentration camps or not.

That's right, Ray. I don't know if those were the first concentration camps, but the death toll was horrific. Around 40,000 descendants of Dutch settlers were incarcerated by the British Empire.
