@kategabrielle.bsky.social has *the best* Old Hollywood merch! I've got many of her witty pins & a "PSYCHO KEELER" sweatshirt.
"The first major film noir directed by a woman, Ida Lupino"... and look how tiny her credit is.
"Be glad that you are here" 💙

Good catch! And if memory serves, also features the contractually obligatory Shirtless Montalban scene (thanks to a squash game).

OUTRAGE (1950)
Directed, produced & cowritten by Ida Lupino, it was one of the first Hollywood films to center on a rape survivor sensitively & nonexploitatively... even though the Production Code wouldn't allow use of the word "rape".
My husband and I went to NYC on sabbatical/temporary contracts a couple of years ago; we loved it, too... But even though both of us had offers to stay, we decided to come home to Madrid. It really is a fantastic place to live!

I live in Madrid, where we have our own breed of owner-operated convenience stores (called "chinos"), but bodegas--a Spanish word which for us means "wine cellar"--are definitely in a class of their own. When we spent 6 months living in Harlem, we got to know all kinds of bodega subgenres; iykyk.
Incredibly different, indeed! The copy of the ad indicates that they rewrote the character as originally conceived after Harlow was cast... hard to imagine Garbo doing all those little physical comedy bits, or delivering all those gleefully dirty wisecracking lines.

The Film Noir That Made You a Fan:
THE MALTESE FALCON (1941)
Incredible directorial debut, impeccable script, iconic cinematography, perfect cast. Saw it as a student at the Orson Welles in Cambridge, Mass. (playing a drinking game in the mezzanine) & was hooked for life.

Interesting to see the phrase "the talking screen"; assuming this is 1931 (the year before RED DUST was released), it was nearing the end of the period when "GARBO TALKS!" was still a selling point. Crazy to imagine her in the Jean Harlow role!

Asked "who was your favorite dance partner", Astaire was always a gent (of course) & ducked the question but his memoirs "Steps in Time" made it clear that he really enjoyed dancing with Hayworth, who came up on the elegant nightclub circuit rather than Broadway or ballet, so was ideal for his style
