i know i keep saying this (at least out loud in person but probably also on here at least 3x) but going back to comedy has been really good and stabilizing for me in These Trying Times™️ and i wasn’t even this optimistic about the future when i was doing regular therapy to try to be lol

So you will sometimes find a brown politician who repeats the fascists' talking points on trans people---or hell, even on illegal immigrants, because THEY came to the West "the right way" when the legal restrictions were looser and their parents could afford it.

Your average marginalized person is not doing the calculus to determine that they ought be on the same side as the proles and crossdressers and the prole crossdressers. We all grow up immersed in patriarchy, nationalism, and capitalist propaganda, and have to unpack that conservative outlook.

We should all be better educated on the reproduction of oppressive ideologies, or false consciousness, or whatever we want to call the phenomenon of marginalized people choosing to negotiate with the hegemony to secure their own position within it, rather than standing with other oppressed people.
