A good example here in LA is the RevComs. I first noticed them in 1978, and they have been a fixture of LA protests ever since.
Yet in almost 50 years of noisy drum-pounding, they have never made any allies, never tipped even the most minor local election, or had any impact whatsoever.

I woke up one night to hear a homeless man screaming for help, swatting at invisible demons as he lay in a fetal position.

I didn't call 911 b/c I knew if LAPD responded, there was a 50/50 chance they would end up just killing him.

I use this as an example of why we need to divert police funds.

My objections to vandalism and arson is that it never seems to be controlled or targeted in any way; It just seems like the sort of hooliganism you see after a Superbowl, and the public seems to react to it the same way; A few mom & pop businesses go bankrupt, but no progress is made

From what I can see, there is plenty of evidence that they result in the opposite, an erosion of support from the ordinary apolitical citizens.
None of the broken windows ever seem to be carefully targeted- I personally witnessed a mob of ppl in 2020 smash the windows of minority owned businesses.
