The incredibly glib inability to assess a given issue in a more systematic context, to see past any given battle the greater war, the total failure to summon one’s collective imagination and intelligence—ostensibly an educated one, at that—to see the greater picture of the world. All to defend this.

The thing about useful idiots in professional spaces is that the whole game, from the perspective of the fascist, is to constantly game them into taking ”innocuous” positions on any given day’s culture war issue, thus forcing them to perpetually conflict with everything left of the fascists.
This won’t be a popular opinion, but I don’t think the instructor was right here. The assignment said that the goal was for students to demonstrate they completed the readings *and* they could do so by reflecting on, among other things, their personal experiences. www.oudaily.com/news/ou-stat...

the girl and her mother are basically screaming THIS IS A BAD FAITH ATTACK ON TRANS PEOPLE at the top of their lungs and if you can't see that you're stupid or lying
a lot of people debating the merits of that dogshit essay meanwhile the girl’s mom is retweeting demands to ban all trans people from teaching at any level. it’s forest for the trees shit

So, this is about OU, and I think it’s a fair characterization of a problem, the solution to which cannot be “put the instructor on leave immediately.” You cannot do things that way, or the rule is that Calvin gets an A.

It's good to re-up this for World AIDS day. If you don't know the whole story I'd recommend reading the thread. It really sucks that Grohl and the band have been allowed to sweep this under the rug, because their support had real, significant consequences.
I don't think I've ever talked on Bluesky about why I hate the Foo Fighters and Dave Grohl.

Don't read any further unless you're prepared for uncomfortable truths about the "Nicest Guy in Rock", and his very substantial body count & subsequent cover-up.

The world agreed on a strategy to end AIDS known as 95-95-95: 95% of people with HIV should know their status, 95% of the diagnosed should be on medication, 95% should have the virus suppressed.

By 2022, the world reached 87-89-94. Then Trump killed aid funding.

Every 10 minutes in 1991 someone died of AIDS. The tape was the sound of the Riverside Church bell sounding once every 10 minutes.

Electric Blanket -- "Remember AIDS is an International Epidemic" - was first projected on the facade of Cooper Union in 1990.

The bag is also a project of Visual AIDS.

Skimming my morning feeds, seeing a couple of takes about the incident from university faculty types, I think this holds up well.
Also - one reason I ultimately decided not to go into academics after finishing my PhD was that my tolerance for chickenshit had been thoroughly exhausted.

The lack of support that this institution is giving its grad student instructor is a good example of this.

There's not a single anti-trans campaigner or group with a major platform on twitter who haven't posted *horrifying* things and it's a stain on our entire media ecosystem that not a single major outlet has done even basic reporting of it.
I thought I could not be shocked by what prominent transphobes feel able to say about me. Turns out I was wrong.

Here is Richard Dunstan, a prominent commentator closely associated with the Sex Matters charity, speculating that I enjoyed being sexually assaulted as a child.

*checking my mail* Huh, a letter from an old employer, wonder what that's about?

*fantasize that an audit revealed they owe me money*

Ah, they're notifying me about a data breach that included my SSN. Of course.

(It was a pretty thin fantasy anyway considering I helped with annual audits there.)
