May the ghostly cries and lamentations of every enslaved person who worked there haunt this boutique hotel's owners, managers, and guests unto the last days of their lives.
Birdwood plantation is being rebranded as a “mansion” “rumored to have been constructed by some of Founding Father Thomas Jefferson's own builders” turned into a luxury hotel that can booked for weddings. Smh.

“The book has been banned by three school districts — Carmel, Indiana; Palm Beach County, Florida; Stillwater, Minnesota — and nationally by the DoD in military schools”

Sometimes I find myself having to explain the concept of community to my dad. I shoveled my block this morning which first of all, was not hard, and also my next door neighbor is a senior citizen, it's a no-brainer. He was like you shouldn't do that, you're being too nice. (1/3)

US citizens don't have "papers." I, for one, have my driver's license which I needed my birth cert at first application... when I was 18. I'll be damned if I carry my birth certificate around with me in the USA!
Armed ICE agents trapped US citizens in a restaurant and demanded their papers. Federal agents walked into East African restaurants in Cedar-Riverside, MN. They closed and blocked the doors. Then they demanded to see everyone’s papers. Every person present was a US citizen.

The ACA isn't just "health care for people who don't have a conventional employer." It also disallows something that was incredibly common 20 years ago, which I fear is getting lost to generational memory: insurance companies could deny you health care for essentially any previous health problem.
I'm dubious about Amazon's commitment to keeping pre-existing conditions a thing of the past.

At SNL I worked with artists who made the funniest, stupidest graphics in no time flat. Some of my biggest jokes would have been impossible without these geniuses building an insane image or finding the perfect real-life photo of a politician. Sucks that their work is being pushed aside for slop.
SNL used AI art tonight, multiple times.

Booooooo.

But ProPublica did.

Doctors don't actually have the ability to know when or whether someone will die. There are doctors who get off on killing people so they will approve anyone on the slightest grounds, like serial killer Ellen Wiebe

TW/CW: suicide

Notably, Canada's MAID has already led to multiple people choosing to end their lives not because their pain was unbearable or their condition was terminal, but because they could no longer afford the costs of healthcare plus the basics of food and shelter.
December 14, 2025 at 6:19 PM
People already have the right to do what they want with their own bodies - suicide is not illegal.
What so-called "right to die" laws do is legalize the murder of disabled people by healthcare workers, as long as some paperwork is filled out.
Theoretically, everyone deserves the right to do what they want to their own bodies.

But in practice, these laws lead to further devaluation of disabled lives. They invariably lead to people choosing MAID because they can't afford healthcare, cajoled into this cheaper choice by an uncaring system.

When I formally complained about this one of the last times she did this to me — in Nov. 2024 — the globe’s answer was to say (to paraphrase) that she’ll “answer me on Twitter.”

She basically just took it as a chance to slander me more, based on opinion not fact, accusing me of misinfo.

As a person with PTSD from witnessing a shooting murder: News outlets *autoplaying* mass shooting footage on social media without CWs are doing so much harm. We have consumed so violent content that’s deeply corrosive to the brain. It’s our responsibility to ensure we disseminate it appropriately.

Nice to see that Globe and Mail columnist Robyn Urback is allowed to once again just totally twist my words and falsely smear me as antisemitic with zero professional consequences.

This is the second time she’s done this to me personally, and she’s done this to others too.

Such an awful person.

mass shootings are one of the major events of online political discourse, like football games. the goal is to make sure that the headlines make your enemies look bad. telling the truth is a notable handicap that makes it harder to win the game
This is fucking grim. Somebody invented a white guy, an "IT professional" named Edward Crabtree, who stopped the Bondi shooting and spread it all over the internet, which was picked up by AI agents and slop aggregation sites.

The real hero is a fruit stand owner named Ahmed el Ahmed.

I’ve gotten a few replies like this today and I just want to point out
1. None of them have come from Palestinians
2. Violent antisemitism predates the existence of a Zionist movement, which began in Europe in an colonialist environment
3. These comments themselves conflate Judaism with Zionism
Tragically, Israel has done its best to ruin these Jewish symbols for everyone and brought danger to all Jews by constantly conflating the IDF’s barbarism with the Jewish people. That is unforgivable.

The man who stopped one of the Bondi Beach shooters is Ahmed El Ahmad, a Muslim man and 43 year old father of two.

He risked his life to save others, and reminded all of us that not all heroes wear capes.

He was shot twice and is in the hospital having surgery.

Please remember this man’s name.
