Watching the live action cowboy bebop and thankfully my expectations have been reduced by the reviews I’ve read

It’s fun!

Also thinking about the anime and how they basically have a misato type for the show’s cast

Ngl the politics of the writer/show runner for Bridgerton and Scandal seem suspect

Scandal is literally about fawning over a Republican dirt bag president coz

it's ok if people like Dune and stuff.

Hell, I adore Philip K Dick (though it feels like mentally I wear nitrile gloves to peel out his bigotries)

But there's so many other voices and there's so many problems with the "golden era" writers
Watching this video of top 15 sci fi ever

First red flag: dude calls omniscient third person "weird" and "unique"

Second red flag: dude starts with Dune and The Mote in God's Eye, two "golden era" (a misnomer) stories that are really just "it's all about cishet white guys" stories

This person is being brutal to these trader joe's cheeses

she said the gruyère was a "you should buy your gruyère elsewhere" situation!

interesting prompt! of course loving feelings of respect for all those we have lost and all those suffering ongoing health issues

but for me, the shift to WFH definitely

Also getting my cats and being able to be present to see them grow up from tiny kittens and be with them all day long
What's a charming memory you have from the worst period of the pandemic?

That’s exactly the point of surrogate violence and Stochastic network violence of this kind coming from the state.

They are tacitly deputizing members of the public to carry out the violence for them in a plausibly deniable way it’s the exact same method they used to orchestrate January 6th.
Republicans, and the Trump WH specifically, are going to end up being directly responsible for violence against Democratic electeds. And nothing will be done about it.

This is it! People act like society changed when it didn’t, just autistic people were counted for the first time
So what's the problem? Well, because they had not been tracked before. That meant that the number of students exploded, because they hadn't been counted. That made people think there was an epidemic of autism, when really it was just a policy success.

What did this do? It required #ActuallyAutistic students to be included in the law's "Child Count" provision, which requires schools report the number of students with disabilities they serve. That gave the government data about autistic students in America.

In 1990, during the reauthorization, the law's name changed to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act AND it added autism (and traumatic brain injuries) as covered conditions. As @jpitney.bsky.social flags via my book, this was meant to be a corrective. This wasCongress's report.

Today is the anniversary of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. Not only did the law literally open doors to countless students with disabilities (myself included), it also had the unintended consequence of creating the moral panic around an autism "epidemic." 🧵 1/
