Louis CK has never fully acknowledged his misconduct, and has misrepresented it multiple times—including in his initial apology. In so doing, he has continued to do harm to his victims.

Fuck that. Fuck him.

CK has also made his misconduct into a joke in his stand-up: "If you ever masturbate in front of someone, ask them first. If they say yes, don't do it!"

But again, this misrepresents the testimony of several of his victims, leading people to believe that they consented when they did not.

Also note that his statement only refers to women he exposed himself to in person—it doesn't mention the woman, also quoted in the original Times story on his misconduct and named in his "apology," who he talked dirty to and masturbated to over the phone without asking for permission.

In his initial statement he said "I never showed a woman my dick without asking first." Many people assumed, as he knew and intended that they would, that that meant that he asked for and received consent.

But note that he doesn't explicitly make that claim. There's a reason for that.

Since Louis CK is in the news again, it's worth restating that he never gave an honest accounting of his sexual misconduct—his initial "apology" and his subsequent statements have been contradicted by the testimony of his victims, and contained elisions and gaps intended to exonerate him.

One of the features of the Trump era is a formalization of the use of enemies lists to induce terror. It is one thing when MAGA influencers or organizations are naming you as an enemy of the state, but it takes on a different cast when its the White House. donmoynihan.substack.com/p/governing-...

Anecdotally on twitter seeing a big shift the last few days from every AI slop account saying every other creative field is “over” and they’re in control now to now posting about how nobody likes them and it’s not fair and they’ll persevere and real artists respect and uplift eachother

I’m dumbstruck by news of the death of Tom Stoppard—maybe because he hoarded all the words and knew how to use them better than just about anyone. I hope we savor his spectacular wit and erudition and argue about the politics of his plays forever. He was monumental, and also a kind and curious man.
