Easily irritated, but not yet convinced that humans will manage to wipe ourselves out completely. He/him, but yo' gurl is okay too.

John Sayles for President.

People don’t understand that stripping the guardrails of regulation and oversight doesn’t just apply to like better business bureau type shit but also like on a practical level when I get into an elevator I expect that it has passed a safety inspection & that type of security will be gone soon

Contrary to what some liberal critics say, John Roberts has kept his pledge to only call balls and strikes. He never promised that the strike zone would be the same for Democrats and Republicans.

I think another thing is they don't want a protest movement they can't control, and like you noted, they haven't/won't put in the work to build a mass politics for their own political formation (to the extent that's even possible, given their ideological druthers).

Not understanding that power vacuums are going to be filled by *someone* seems like yet another way the Dems in general refuse to understand power, and its uses. In contrast with the Republicans, who understand very well how to acquire and use power, even if they use it for Bad Things.

It is funny that Van Hollen is actually in a one on one beef with a senior leader of the Jewish American institutional political community and it receives maybe 1/100th the coverage of Zohran Mamdani not condemning something he *didn't say*.

Fusion centers were created post-9/11 to target terror but, as this points out, instead target us.

As repeatedly happened—bc terrorism is vanishingly rare, and law enforcement isn’t going to just let tools sit unused.

Like 99% of Patriot Act “sneak and peek” warrants have not been in terror cases.

since we're doing USPS discourse again, a reminder of what Dems should be saying
"the USPS is a miracle. it's in the constitution. for the price of a single stamp you can send a letter across the country, from Hawaii to Maine. Trump is trying to take that away from you. He's attacking Christmas cards and wedding invitations. It's un-American and it has to stop."

If Holsey doesn't end up testifying, and soon, you can forget about any accountability at all for the boat m*rd*rs. And it won't be long before it escalates, because now they have a bunch of people lined up who WILL "just follow" illegal orders.

Call your electeds, if you think it'll help

Are Democratic voters asking the party what their Project 2026 plan is if they win the House? What's the written plan and the timeline? What's the first thing a Dem House would do in jan 2027?

The last few years have made crystal clear how much of our politics is driven by moral luck — people who are self identified liberals or Democrats only because of life circumstances, not because they actually have a principled belief structure. Many are just as reactionary as the right.

Honestly find it hilarious that Bluesky is probably going to hide this because of the n word.

Juice or no juice this place isn't nearly as woke as y'all like to pretend it is. Bluesky is mostly just early Twitter, but set in a different era, with more politically sophisticated users.

Yep. Though it's empty now mostly because we've been ruled by monsters for so long that most of us have been trained into a state of learned helplessness

Purity tests are why food and drug safety used to be pretty decent, and why r*pst *azis in the government used to be considered embarrassing
"Purity test" is an empty signifier. If you think it's a purity test to ask that you not be massively corrupt, oppose genocide, and don't vote for the opposition parties' deeply unqualified cabinet appointments, that says more about you than the people supposedly purity testing you.
Exactly. It's disingenuous to call it a purity test to say "You shouldn't be beholden to right-wing billionaires pushing right-wing policies and right-wing candidates."

Lot cheaper than Amazon prime

Just saying
The USPS posting a NINE BILLION DOLLAR LOSS!!! sounds terrible. Certainly worse than if you said "USPS costs thirty dollars per person per year" even though that means the same thing and more accurately describes a government service

There are so many people living lives of quiet dignity despite horrific medical news or poverty or tragedy where every day they still wake up and try to be good people in the world even as the world pushes against them and it makes me even angrier at the absolute shitheads that rule over things

It's hard to explain to normies how much effort Trump is putting into anti-trans policies.

This is like the 12th thing just this week. And there were 12 things the week before, and 12 things the week before that. There will be 12 things next week.

This is almost everything the government is doing.

Good article well worth reading, but we already know the floor is 27% aka the "Keyes Constant"

(Internet joke. But it does seem like approval bottoms out around there.)
New piece with lots of data and charts: How low could Trump’s approval rating realistically go? Affordability is his big problem, but how big is that problem? Are we talking an approval floor of 35%? 30%? Worse?

@propublica.org oh come the f* on

I'm over here trying to figure out if I'll be able to send money next year (which has always seemed like a great investment before) and y'all pull something like this?

This is just stupid. Stop it
It's simple — @propublica.org workers should not be replaced by artificial intelligence. Our contract proposal specifically says that generative artificial intelligence ("GAI") should not be used to replace employees. Management struck out this entire section in their response to our proposal.

If it looks like, swims like, and quacks like a duck, there's no way to know what it is

Just kidding. And yeah, if you're an ornithologist you'll probably want to be more precise. But for normal everyday purposes it's totally reasonable to say "oh look, it's a duck"
One of the most brutal lessons of the last year is just how unbelievably complacent and racist a bunch of the commentary class is when it comes to anything involving the kidnapping, brutalization, and murder of non-whites. It’s the only way I am able to understand this stuff anymore.
