Unfortunately, in US journalism it is considered neutral to spread a lie, but it is considered "biased" to call out a lie. So, there is a structural asymmetry that rewards colorful lies with virality.

One of the most painful things for me is how I was essentially demonised for crying as a child. This is so painful to me I'm crying about it right now.
"Many of these girls are quiet and compliant in class, only to be tearful, explosive, or angry once they are in the relative safety of home. Sadly, mothers may be blamed for this discrepancy." No actually this was blamed on me, it was "proof I was faking all the crying & doing it on purpose" 🙄

The part that fucks me up the most is every part of this looks set to get worse over time, not better. Forcing higher numbers of an aging population into smaller and less safe accommodation in more obscure and less resourced places over time. If it doesn't seem like such an issue now, just wait.

when it would be so much better for everyone involved if we simply paid people like that enough or subsidized our rent enough to let us live on our own in the first place. Renting forever is one thing. Sharehousing forever is fucking inexcusable imo.
