The rhetoric about disabled people, trans people, Muslims, Immigrants, etc… is all part of the same bigotry.

It’s all part of the same Fascist rhetoric & propaganda.

Not really, she’s a horrendous person and transphobe. But do note who else is in there and unfollow if necessary
Huh… interesting that Brian Cox’s wife has liked this post.

I mean, "tolerating" people only if you can strictly control their routes in and duration of stay, exploit them in (usually) extractive and less-paid jobs (or jobs where they are paid less than the population you designated as 'native'), then ensure you can kick them out when sick/incapacitated ➡️
Good morning, kind reminder that when you endorse supposedly "immigration-friendly" narratives such as "we need immigrants to pick our vegetables/clean our shit/sweep our streets" (incl. the most recent Monbiot's piece) you're contributing to the creation of England's internal labour colony

Can't wait for Robin Ince to get as many column inches in the national press over his actual establishment silencing due to his stance on lgbt+ rights as phobes get over their former friends not wanting to hang out so much any more

Up to my neck in an Elliott Smith phase (latest iteration of 17-year ongoing ‘phase’), somehow only just discovered full band ‘Needle In The Hay’ and oh my God, it has no business going this hard, obsessed all over again

These are jaw-dropping. What the actual fuck
Slides from a Home Office presentation for employers on “earned settlement” — note the case studies: they explicitly play the “good migrant” versus “bad migrant” narrative. Guess which category Sarah, the American, is placed in?

At the core of it all, though: we’ve had near two decades of politicians and media screaming at us that even having what we had in 2007 is an impossible fantasy that has to be destroyed, or creating inflammatory distractions, and that is why (points at everything on fire and sliding into the sea)
Richard Madeley "How realistic is it for any profession to expect to be paid in real terms what they were paid in 2008?"

The UK is the 6th largest economy in the world & the rich have never been richer, but Madeley thinks the rest of us should just accept being poorer #GMB

I also saw those who protested a local Reform council meeting - which had at least 3? I think? members just caught liking racist shit online - called ‘dole dossers’ and ‘far left loonies’. I can’t bear this. I don’t know how anyone manages anything. Activism! World-changing! I can’t even SEE STUFF.

Went onto FB to check something, ended up in the comments sections of articles about the hunger strikers, and just… it shouldn’t still surprise me. But the utter lack of humanity, from hundreds, thousands of people. Laughing, sneering hatred. This is the country I’m meant to be proud of?

The lesson from WWII and the Shoah was that human rights are universal. "Centre" politicians are doing the bidding of the far-right here, solving zero problems but creating huge ones for our democracies. Why would they pave the way for authoritarianism and enable their own demise?

When did we decide that if an event is fancy, your bag must be so small? And shaped like an envelope, a bow, a shell, or a pill. Can we reopen this please

Probably an obvious/wussy/both answer, but I cannot watch Requiem For A Dream ever again. Incredible film. To its credit that I will not put myself through it again. Others of this calibre I watched only a couple of times before deciding the same: Boys Don’t Cry, The Magdalene Sisters, The Pianist
Never mind movies you’ve watched multiple times, name a movie you’ve watched once and would never watch again.

I do sometimes wonder how commonly this fact is known

Among those living in Britain, people born in Africa are almost *twice* as likely to have a university degree as those born in England and Wales

And that those born in Africa are more likely to have a degree than those born in any other region
In the 2021 Census (England and Wales)

Region of birth: % graduates

England+Wales: 25%

Africa: 46%
Americas and Caribbean: 45%
Middle East and Asia: 40%
Europe: 38%

It is a cliche across generations & places: migrant parents telling their children they need to work harder & be more qualified

When the DWP are putting me through the ringer for the 747638th time, and I’m staring at my bank account at 2am wondering what to do now they have, yet again, not paid me when they said they would - it’s hard not to consider what my 6-figure lawyer father could have done for me instead of nothing

The overt ableism is not shocking from a government which thinks we overdiagnose mental illness, but in a decent world, it would be shocking.

May seem mad to a lot of people but if we keep voting for the lesser evil in perpetuity, evil still wins and things will only keep getting worse.
