periodically I'll see a backlash that goes a little too far or seems kinda unfair. i never say anything because i think we need to be kinda unhinged and zealous in our response to this shit. I'd take an honest-to-God crusade against this stuff over letting it proliferate.

2) Needlefelting can be used in so many ways!

3) Everybody is returning to their ancestral practices these days!

The name "Popular Science" doesn't mean we shift our coverage depending on public opinion. It means we cover relevant subjects that are rigorously researched, reliable, and grounded in reality.

And trans lives are grounded in reality.

We see y'all. No matter what.

First-of-a-kind study shows encouraging data for trans kids who socially transition
Ninety-four percent of participants in a new study stood firm in their trans identity after five years, and "detransitioning" is rare.

The implication of "we'll change our stance if AI doesn't align with our ethics" is that, at present, it does.

GenAI is built on the back of theft, has multiple environmental concerns & has had concerns over use in multiple industries.

At which point is it "too bad" for Larian's ethics?

They say they’re protecting kids. They’re not. They’re harming these kids by blocking their access to health care.

These comments make clear what this is about: Eliminating *all* trans people of all ages.

If they get away with it with trans people, they’re coming for you next.

ICYMI, I wrote about Yglesias making common cause with the right-wing moral panic over critical race theory. His supposed defense of liberalism is deeply illiberal. @liberalcurrents.com
A Tent Big Enough for Bigots but Too Small for Critical Race Theory
Like so many of critical race theory's detractors, Matthew Yglesias fails to engage with the actual scholarship.

Americans are tired of what coastal elites have been shoving down their throats, so I think elevating fresh voices like the vice president, the head of one of the most valuable companies on the planet, a Times columnist, and a Jeffrey Epstein associate who teaches at Harvard is a risk worth taking.

The thing that really gets me is back in 2014 I think bigots in NC tried to pass a bathroom ban & it blew up in their faces & when these same people came back with "fairness in sports" too many people took them seriously when it was an obvious change in tactics!
There’s a direct line from ‘just asking questions about women’s sports’ to criminalizing our health care, we warned you it was coming, you said it would be fine and you just had a few more questions.

Should you refuse to show compassion because you believe it would make you appear weak, then you have misunderstood what strength is. It is honorable to have concern for others, to show empathy and to offer aid to someone in distress. To rebuke this is cowardice, not strength.

People got stuck on the notion of Rosie the Robot Maid without realizing the washer/dryer and dishwasher are already the Jetsons future including a place to keep your clean stuff if you don’t feel like moving it. They explicitly just want slaves both sexual/“romantic” and domestic.
Don't get me wrong about household utilities, washing machines and dishwashers are great but I can not imagine why you want a humanoid servant instead of a box that you put dirty things in and pull clean ones out of later other than a weird fetish for having a servant.
