Okay I have made some troubleshooting progress!

D-pad inputs can't navigate to the UI back button

The inability to navigate to the UI back button seems like an actual bug, the controller button might be because of how the default mappings can be pretty random on different controls, and might just be fixed if you eventually add remapping, cause it's possible I just don't have a B button mapped

I can scroll up and down through the options but it stops at game speed and won't navigate to the back button lol

Yeah in terms of reporting the specific circumstances, I was using a controller with a Brook Universal Board (I think in Xbox mode), and it completely worked for actual gameplay, but in the options menu I both could not navigate to the UI back button and no button seemed to be mapped to backing out

Honestly I think you can boil down the state of the entire AAA industry to the following too-common beliefs:

1) Old games are bad because the point of software is new technology

2) New ideas are bad because the point of art is brand loyalty

3) Given 1+2 all games must combine old IP with new tech

Folks are rightfully shitting on Capcom for the Resident Evil GOG stuff, about how they didn't want to re-release the old games because the new ones exist or whatever, but almost every major publisher, Japanese or not, believes the same thing.

We let the pop star stan corners of the internet fester for way too long while having ridiculous attitudes and priorities and now I feel like whole generations are growing up with that somehow being on the list of normal ways to think. I assume on some level TRL and Billboard did this to us.

Like people (presumably teenagers) will sit there and feel genuine dissatisfaction that the performers they stan who go on world tours and are in Chanel ads are somehow inadequately famous and enjoying insufficient levels of success because they aren’t Blackpink or BTS

So much rhetoric I see around Kpop is like a video with *50mil views* will get comments like “these girls are so underrated I can’t believe the music industry ignores them” because the fans consider it their team losing a competitive sport against other groups whose videos have 2 billion views lmao
