Sydney Reid acquitted.

This was a case where someone filming was assaulted, and then arrested and charged with felony assault.

The grand jury no billed that, so they took her to trial on a misdemeanor charge. There were a bunch of discovery problems.

And now this.

Kudos to the FPDS!
A verdict form for Sydney Lori Reid. She was found Not Guilty.

🚨WOW. A unanimous per curiam (meaning no named author) panel of the 7th Circuit, made up of a Bush appointee, an Obama appointee, and a Trump appointee, decline to step in and block a lower court order barring the deployment of the National Guard in Chicago!
#BREAKING The 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals refuses to undo an order blocking deployment of National Guard troops within Illinois.

"We conclude that the district court's factual findings … were not clearly erroneous, and that the facts do not justify the President's actions in Illinois."

Remember when Hillary Clinton got excoriated for calling Trump supporters “deplorables”
Leavitt: "The Democrat Party's main constituency is made up of Hamas terrorists, illegal aliens, and violent criminals."
And then the follow up, "now I talk to a computer with a woman's voice about my problems and she makes me feel better" feels even more grim.

You can legitimately give the Founding Fathers shit for a ton of stuff about how the US government works, but they were also obsessed with preventing the exact scenario we're living through and put like five layers of defense into their design
Same time that Pritzker is telling city and state officials to start arresting and prosecuting federal officials for assaulting Illinois citizens.

OT1H, this is clearly really bad.

OTOH, our federalized design might end up being an absolute godsend.

Today was Gregg Mayles' last day at Rare. He posted this lovely little farewell over on social media. Since he's not on Bluesky, I hope he doesn't mind me sharing it here.

There's probably no video game designer, let alone creative mind, who has had as much of a positive impact on my life as Gregg.
A poem by Gregg Mayles, including a photo of him looking out at the countryside with Googly Eyes.

A Rather Resplendent Rewarding Rare Ramble

Grant me moments of your time,
To tell a story versed in rhyme,

In eighty nine this tale does start,
When famous wall did fall apart.

Still standing tall a lad left school,
Who'd employ this daydreaming fool?

A chance arose to go into banking,
Choice he ignored and forever thanking,

Local paper had tiny ad,
Go join Rare? WHAT! You must be mad!

He tested games then got into design,
Which somehow turned out reasonably fine,

Mentored by the Ultimate greats,
Expectations of Rare game traits,

Each game adding to his skills,
A memorable ride of many thrills,

First three toads and then some apes,
Donkey, Diddy, barrels of japes,

Grand adventures of bird and bear,
Whacking Ghoulies with haunted chair,

Critters of paper in gardening charm,
Sporting parties waving leg and arm,

Sailing pirates through stormy weather.
Players creating stories together,

Others too, much less well known,
With Rare magic in them sown,

Wonderful games made by splendid teams,
Enchanting players have been their dreams,

The Ruby Ramble one final chapter.
Of lovingly crafted games and laughter,

For here is where this story ends,
Thirty six years it's been my friends,

For come the day October fourteen,
At Manor Park then no longer seen,

His sack of fun upon his back,
To set off down a different track,

Leaving behind some parting advice,
Have no fear, it's helpful and nice,

If captivating players is what you seek,
Keep on making Rare games unique!

Now time to start new tales to tell,
Farewell to Rare he waves, farewell!

Gregg
I was very confused for a sec and thought you meant the blue hedgehog
Wow, I hate this! (Especially because of how plausible it sounds.)
@marzgurl.com would you happen to know anyone who could help?
If in practice Congress no longer holds the power of the purse, I’m not sure we’re very many steps away from this at this point:
Scene from Star Wars: Episode IV. Grand Moff Tarkin telling other Imperial officers: “The Imperial Senate will no longer be of any concern to us.
I've just received word that the Emperor has dissolved the council permanently.”

This version is confirmed, by Hoffman Estates police, puncturing the official DHS statement.

At this point, there is a statement from DHS re 🧊 activities in the Chicago area that’s refuted in similar fashion on nearly a daily basis at a minimum over the past week
Despite what some, including at DHS, are claiming, this video isn’t from a year ago in Chicago. It was Friday in Hoffman Estates, in my district, a street I’ve walked myself. It appears to show a child being violently detained by ICE. It’s real, and I’m demanding accountability.

Is bribery illegal? I have a degree from Yale Law School.
Vance is having an incredible morning on the Sunday shows doing "oh so now it's illegal to [mundane thing]?"

A real quote when Vance is asked about whether Tom Homan kept the $50,000 he got in a fast food bag: "Is it illegal to take a payment for doing services?"
Democratic strategists that probably make north of six figures:
The Good Place scene: Good Place committee member saying, “He's got a point.
The fair thing for us to do is
just keep on giving up
more and more stuff we want, unilaterally,
until this demon is finally happy.”

The deportation order is based on Vedam’s conviction for murder—a crime he did not actually commit and for which he’s now been wholly exonerated. He entered the US at 9 months old and was a legal permanent resident before his conviction. We are so, so, so far from the light of justice.
After spending 43 years in prison for a crime he didn't commit, evidence hidden by the prosecution reversed his conviction. Rather than finally enjoying freedom, ICE abducted him for deportation

Depraved.
