This obviously has tons of historical antecedents, but I do really think this is at the heart of however you want to define this current social malaise: a complete disconnect between the world as a represented thing and the world that you experience in the course of living.

In 2023, for the first time in recorded history, senior men now earn more, on average, than their 25-34 year old counterparts."

Let me tell you a story. Perhaps you can guess where this is going... though it does have a bit of a twist.

I was poking around Google Scholar for publications about the relationship between chatbots and wellness. Oh how useful: a systematic literature review! Let's dig into the findings. 🧵

Ottawa and Toronto have never felt closer in spirit.
The Finch West LRT being slower than the bus it's replacing might be my personal Joker moment. The army of people who fought to preserve LRTs in the face of a mountain of dishonesty from multiple parties deserved an honest effort to make them actually operate well. Instead, we get Toronto.

Paying him $16 million is really going to haunt Paramount/CBS.
President Trump is mad about the 60 Minutes interview with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene R-GA, so he wants an apology from CBS. I can't make this stuff up.

Go to a concert and try to get in by saying you’ve got too many subscriptions and shouldn’t have to pay. It’s the same thing.
complaining about paywalls when so many journalists are being laid off and there are fewer market incentives to do great reporting and in-depth investigations, data analysis and features is also wild when everyone understands you need to pay for electronics, streaming services, and utilities

I don't think this is about appeasing Alberta. I think the Alberta MOU part of an ongoing effort to convince Canadians that the prime minister cares about the economy more than anything else.

And if you can pull that off, you actually might pick up seats.
Appeasing Alberta is a fool’s gambit. It never pays off.

Excellent piece here from Bruce Deachman. I participated in the same workshop a couple years ago. Eye-opening, empathy-building, and at times maddening. Should be mandatory training for every elected official.

Sometimes, after a lengthy news event that led to a long list of individual stories exploring all kinds of facets and angles, a single, 3,500-word write-up of the entire affair is incredibly helpful.
For months, I’ve been following a Canadian ostrich farm ordered to cull its flock after a bird flu outbreak. It was a cause célèbre for MAHA activists, a MAGA billionaire, and, of course, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. The trucker convoy with birds ended last night. They lost. www.msnbc.com/news/news-an...

Never forget the railroaders who moved quickly and bravely to keep it from being much worse—especially Larry Krupa, who ran toward *40-storey flames* to uncouple burning cars so the rest of the train could pull away.
46 years ago I woke up to massive explosions and a tower of fire 2 miles away. My Dad thought the Russians had attacked.

A train derailment and exploded tanker cars created a cloud of chlorine gas over the city, so we evacuated with 250,000 other Mississaugans.
