My aunt and uncle lived in that complex when I was a kid. The pool was excellent.

It's very routine for protest organizers all over to work with authorities to some degree to minimize *unintended* disruptions. Way more so than you might guess if you aren't involved.

"Welcome to Ottawa, where even street demonstrations are bureaucratic" is still funny.

If you are holding a protest, demonstration or march in #OttCity, we have a new form for that.
It’s voluntary, but filling it out ensures your event runs smoothly, you receive our support and avoid conflicts with other events.

A difficulty with Mark Carney's call to Build, Baby, Build: First Nations and other Indigenous bodies are being absolutely deluged with requests for consultations and comments—some getting so many calls they can't possibly handle them all.

Colleague @lauraosman.bsky.social has the story.
First Nations are getting flooded with requests to consult on projects—and it’s about to get worse - The Logic
Indigenous and Métis groups warn paperwork will pile higher now that Ottawa has launched its Major Projects Office. That could put big developments on hold.

It’s weird to put a headline about “innocent bystanders” on a story about American voters learning about the consequences of their democratic choices.

Are they any good, though? They look nice, but I fear they’re dry and mealy.

This is a delightful interpretation if you can't stand Trump, but it's not really an accurate account of either the question or the answer, which are about whether Trump's campaigning made a difference at all.

This was in 2023, but so what, really.

David Simon, creator of ‘The Wire’, being interviewed by Ari Shapiro (NPR)
SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

FWIW, I take Bradford's meaning to be that he doesn't sit on the commission.

Why doesn’t the president go, his own personal self, commiserate with the Portlanders living in the modern Stalingrad and show the world instead of talking about it from D.C.?

Trump: "I don't know what could be worse than Portland. You don't even have stores anymore. They don't even put glass up. They put plywood on their windows."

An actual hot take: Too many authors are afraid of editors watering down their voice or whatever and not afraid enough of editors letting you put any old slop on the page.

This is the exact justification for a flag-burning ban that the Supreme Court *rejected.*
atrupar.com
Trump: "We took the freedom of speech away because that's been through the courts and the courts said you have freedom of speech, but what has happened is when they burn a flag it agitates and irritates crowds."

There's really just one Canadian who gets to talk directly to Donald Trump.

How he goes about it is certainly up for debate and criticism, but I have a hard time seeing the value of having him play any role other than Good Cop.

I agree with the nyger (nyjer? I dunno) seeds being of no interest to squirrels. The problem I’ve had is that birds don’t seem to care for them, either. Twice I’ve filled feeders with nyjer and the seeds sat there till they rotted.

Novo Nordisk, which makes Ozempic and Wegovy, wants Health Canada to stop online pharmacies from selling to foreigners.

Americans MIGHT want to buy generic semaglutide drugs that compete with Novo Nordisk's when generics become legal here soon, years before the U.S.

Prime Minister Mark Carney wants the Alto high-speed rail line under construction in four years, as a nation-building project that will also have a huge appetite for Canadian materials.

One hiccup: If Canadian companies want to supply the rails, they'll have to be quick. thelogic.co/news/alto-hi...
