Hundreds already out here at Grand Park in DTLA, over an hour before the official start of the protest. An auxiliary march is starting from another part of town and headed here by 2pm. Also, per my previous posts this week: plenty of tables of orgs to get involved with

Today I kicked off No Kings Day with hundreds of fired up patriots at NIH who are standing up to this lawless president.

Together we said NO to his attacks on public health.
NO to his assault on our Constitution.
NO to kings in America.

And YES to standing up for our democracy.

Reporting from the NYC Labor Feeder March: Free Palestine is now treated the same as "Get Up, Get Down! New York City is a Union Town!" Its utterly non controversial
Can report back from the Charlotte No Kings that "free Palestine" is now, if not the normie lib position, then at least fully accepted among the normie libs. Lots of signs and flags scattered about, no apparent drama at all.

I was at the the No Kings march in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Many elderly or disabled folks who couldn’t make it to Manhattan, but also young families and people of all ages. I stood in the same spot for more than an hour and the stream of protesters was constant. Amazing turnout.

Okay. New count: Approximately 15k. Largest protest in recent Rhode Island history, if not ever.

“He has claimed the authority, widely disputed by legal experts, to summarily kill such suspects in military strikes as if they were enemy soldiers in a war.

It was a sharp break from the traditional handling of maritime smuggling, in which the Coast Guard would intercept boats and arrest people.”
So dangerous that they must be blown into small pieces rather than arrested … unless they are actually captured in which case they may go home with a warning. www.nytimes.com/2025/10/18/u...

Remember back in January when all these sage politics-knowers were writing about how there had been a vibe shift and now the resistance was over?

You hate it how companies like Google and Microsoft keep shoving AI down your throats, you have no idea how much worse this is for tech workers in regular companies, who have to actually report on how this crap improves productivity.
“People [in tech jobs] worry that not being seen as uncritical AI cheerleaders will be a career-limiting move…for those who aren't insiders in the tech industry, it's vital that you understand that you've been presented with an extremely distorted view about what tech workers really think about AI”
Okay, for the folks who asked: here's the majority AI view, writing up the reasonable, thoughtful view on AI that the vast majority of people in tech hold, that gets overshadowed by the bluster and hype of the tycoons trying to shill their nonsense. anildash.com/2025/10/17/t... Please share!

Come 2028, more than half of the millennials will be of age to be elected president, and my generation might be the one to be passed over. (Have you seen what some of my people have been up to? You might say "good riddance"!)
