it really bothers me that someone who claims to care about this topic is so dumb. He is using this to argue for fare gates on the U bahn in berlin. His whole schtick is basically predicated on germany always sucking and being wrong and he doesnt consider that he is wrong.

a popular X "transit researcher" has completely misread and misrepresented simple statistics and has claimed that 17%+ of transit riders in germany are fare evading. because that is the percent of people who have evaded, not the evasion rate.

I don’t necessarily dislike the requirement for English language. I just dislike the increasing of the administrative burden to be an immigrant

It’s mostly the gvmnt’s fault over their choice of words, but no, ministers are not (despite what much of BlueSky thinks) requiring migrants to have an English A-level. They are requiring B2 level English skills, which is what you have in French if you have A-level French. www.gov.uk/government/n...

Or take the case of Nancy-Contrexeville. SNCF proposed to Région Grand Est it would be best to close it and run a bus.

The Région said no and tendered repairs of the lines and operations, and Transdev won, and SNCF was furious. How could SOMEONE ELSE run it!? 🤯

MPC is better than regular passport control but you still have to talk to someone so it’s really a question of how many officers there are for it/if they’re trained on it

If we want to get into the practicalities of it it falls apart even more. No where we designed with wide enough spaces for gate lines that wouldn’t have horrible lines it would require completely redoing the regional fare scheme
