"So, unfortunately, the only message that the public will receive from this “peaceful transfer of power” is: We surrender."
Democrats’ high road in peaceful transfer of power feels like a dead end

In her article “As Harris certifies her own loss, some see message about democracy” (Page A1, Jan. 4), Tal Kopan presents the view of top Democrats, including our own Senator Elizabeth Warren, that not making a stand to object to Donald Trump’s reelection is “the right thing to do,” that it shows “we still believe in following the Constitution.”

Maybe there once was a world where that could be true, but that is not this world.

Trump’s election to a second term is the culmination of the Jan 6, 2021, insurrection. Our Founders knew a Republic cannot hand power to an insurrectionist and expect to get it back when his turn is up; Section 3 of the 14th Amendment to the Constitution, which Warren did not mention, exists to prevent this scenario.

So, unfortunately, the only message that the public will receive from this “peaceful transfer of power” is: We surrender.

Instead of worrying, say they *are* risking prosecution and court martial for following illegal orders.

Kelly: I really worry about those aviators, drone operators, special forces guys that are in the Caribbean right now striking these boats and whether or not this is legal..

There’s no authorization for the use of military force. The Congress has not given that to the president. He hasn’t asked.

It feels like it should be dead simple for an email client to segregate such updates out for you. Lots of updates would be fine if they were organized and not in the main inbox. Cluster them and show me the most recent only.

A Russian diesel-electric submarine, B-261 "Novorossiysk", surfaced near the coast of Brittany, France, reportedly due to serious technical issues. A French Navy frigate has been deployed to monitor the vessel. NATO confirmed the incident.

I'm calling it on Cyberpunk 2077. There's nuggets of good in it but the game controls are annoying. Also I haven't managed to connect to my character at all halfway through the plot.

I think I'll replay RDR2 and then try out RDR1.

The Texas Military Department confirmed to @taskandpurpose.com it had replaced some of the 200 National Guard troops sent to Chicago for not being "in compliance" with validation standards. This came after photos of heavyset NG members were widely mocked. taskandpurpose.com/news/texas-n...

This is a good catch. The statutory authorization supposedly being used to transfer R&D funds to regular payroll is, in fact, expired, just like the regular appropriations are also expired.

Not that Trump/Vought/Hegseth gaf, but among other ways in which the law says this may NOT be done:
A) The part of 8005 I've underlined in green says money transferred to another account is "available… for the same time period" as that other account; that other acc't expired on Sept 30.

whole thing is even worse than the headline when you think about what 'play' means here

“I’m just as concerned for you! Don’t worry about me! It would seem we are in this together and will have to rise above it. Otherwise keep in close touch and we’ll play some more soon!!!!”"

1) I once again take this opportunity to remind you: to keep its basic functioning, society has to discourage baldfaced lying, especially by authorities

2) is...is it happening?

STEPHANOPOULOS: I didn't insinuate anything. I asked you whether Tom Homan accepted $50k as was heard on an audio tape recorded by the FBI in September 2024. You did not answer the question. Thank you for your time.

VANCE: No, George, I sai--

STEPHANOPOULOS: We'll be right back

If they haven’t “resolved the issue,” then they shouldn’t be using the shadow docket to overturn long-standing precedents.

Amy Coney Barrett defends heavy use of the shadow docket: "If we wrote a long opinion, it might give the impression that we have finally resolved the issue, and in none of these cases have we finally resolved the issue."

Sure, as soon as they get around to Hegseth and RFK Jr.

But it's useless. Calls to resign only possibly work if the boss actually thinks their underling is doing something wrong.

It is October 2025, the assault on what is left of American democracy is escalating, and one of the New York Times’ most influential formats insists on presenting one of the Trumpist regime’s leaders as a devout “small government” conservative with a great work ethic.

Yikes! In this paper the AlphaFold model of human plasminogen (PDB-8uq6) has been refined into noise (EMD-42462) using Phenix & ISOLDE. For some reason the authors even interpret side-chain interactions:
#cryoEM
Image from the EMD entry EMD-42462 for human plasminogen bound to streptococcal surface enolase. Projections of the map are shown demonstrating no protein features and radial streaks due to overfitting. EMD-424262 and PDB-8UQ6 opened in ChimeraX. Though the map is stated to be of Human Plasminogen bound to streptococcal surface enolase the authors have modelled only plasminogen in their PDB. The map shows radial streak at the surface indicative of overfitting and no clear density in the centre of the map corresponds to the model. Figure 5 from the paper describing side chain interactions of human plasminogen from the PDB 8uq6. Image showing the model to map FSC curve from Phenix which is the software used by the authors to real space refine their PDB into their cryo-EM map. The model to map FSC curve is a flat line showing no correlation exists between the cryo-EM map EMD-42462 and the PDB 8uq6.

I'm just one person, and my programming needs are somewhat unusual (building various kinds of statistical forecasting models). But I'm just not seeing the consistent productivity gains from LLMs that I would have expected if you'd asked me 6 months ago.

I think we really should stop using antifa and just fully say anti-fascist and get them saying they are against anti fascism. Using antifa is giving them some distance and I genuinely think some of their base don’t even know that’s what it stands for.

So dominion voting got sold, look at this fascinating statement from their new owner (not to doom but this is, uh, suboptimal). www.dominionvoting.com
(Dominion voting website now redirecting to libertyvote.com with the following statement:)

Our Promise.
-
My Fellow Americans,
Today, I am proud to announce Liberty Vote - a 100% American-owned election technology company dedicated to restoring trust in our elections. Our mission is clear: every vote must be secure, fair, and verifiable.
I have spent my life working to strengthen America's elections. That commitment began years ago, in the aftermath of the 2000 election, when I worked for the Missouri Secretary of State. Later, as Election Director in St. Louis, I led the effort to modernize outdated systems and rebuild public trust. Eventually, I founded an election technology company that today serves nearly one in four voters nationwide.
With Liberty Vote, we are building on that legacy. We are turning the page and beginning the vital work of restoring faith in American elections. While these changes will not happen overnight, Liberty Vote's mission is rooted in American values and committed to transparency, independent audits, and verifiable paper records.
Our purpose is simple: to ensure that America's elections are secure, fair, and honest.
Scott Leiendecker
Founder and Chairman, Liberty Vote
