I’m sick of RW govts trying to separate “the unions” from their members.

“The unions” can’t take strike actions without balloting members. “The unions” aren’t forcing members to strike; they can’t. Members are voting to strike, because of shite offers from this govt.

Prime Minister Christopher Luxon blames unions for ongoing strike action
"I think people are getting sick of unions prioritising the politics over patients," Christopher Luxon says.

Remember the old rightwing argument that all we needed to do was put a price on climate emissions and let the market do its thing? Well the necessary step was for the Govt to put a price on emissions. The current far right NZ Govt just announced it will never put a price on emissions.

Methane makes up 48% of NZ's climate pollution. The Govt's grossly irresponsible announcement today that they will never have a price on methane, combined with their policies to increase the dairy herd, means that they have zero intention of meeting NZ Paris obligations.

So Winston Peters has been lying about his playing in NZ Māori (old term for Māori All Blacks). Has always had a flexible relationship with the truth. #nzpol

Does the NZ First leader need to tweak his official bio on the ministerial page of the Beehive’s website – and on his party’s site – claiming he’s a former NZ Māori rugby representative?

The solutions proposed for New Zealand's (and virtually every other country's) problems are always like:
"We need to make people work for more years"
"We have to cut back on services, I'm sorry, there is just no other way"
"We have to cut benefits for young people"

never:
"We need to tax the rich"

One of the symptoms of the 'resource curse' is that Govt becomes captured by one industry. In NZ that is dairy. Methane is the dominant GHG for NZ but it is now exempt from prices or regulations to cut it, which means all other sectors have to carry the weight of emissions reductions.

Mind blowing.

The Luxon Government has confirmed it will rewrite NZ’s once bipartisan climate change law to dilute methane reduction targets and PERMANENTLY exclude dairy from the Emissions Trading Scheme – a move Greenpeace says amounts to full-blown climate denial.

Russia lost 17,000 tanks in three years. Only 2,478 remain in storage—nearly all badly rusted and needing expensive restoration before they can fight.

The timing? Russia just shifted back to tank warfare after 282,000 infantry casualties.

It is time the Ignobel Awards included a warmonger's category, instead of just biology, physics, chemistry, and literature. Mind you, it would be a hard decision every year to choose other than the US president (no matter who), the Russian president, or the Israeli president. #nzpol

They have fired the staff of the CDC’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report and 70 Epidemic Intelligence Service officers, who are disease detectives that respond to outbreaks around the world.

I cannot emphasize enough how dangerous it is to dismantle our disease surveillance infrastructure.

98.7% of approximately 166,300 public submissions opposed the RSB

But the majority of the committee has recommended it go forward with only really cosmetic changes.
Committee process
The Regulatory Standards Bill was referred to this committee on 22 May 2025. We
called for submissions on the bill with a closing date of 23 June 2025. About 166,300
submissions were lodged through the website and by email.1
A minority of us would like to report that the Ministry for Regulation contracted
Allen + Clarke to assist with analysing submissions. Of the submissions analysed,
98.7 percent opposed the bill, 0.7 percent were in support, and 0.6 percent were either
unclear or did not take a position on the bill.
A majority would like to report that from additional analysis, 1,317 submissions were
identified as containing detail or unique arguments, and were considered to be 'substantive' on this basis.

One final bit of good news - 234600 people across the motu voted to remove Māori wards, 245800 to keep them - 51.1% of all votes were to keep them, 48.9% not to. The majority of the country that voted were in favour so suck it coalition!
