number 61 in this monthly project that’s been unfolding for over five years, this entry was made with thousands of footsteps, lots of slow looking, dozens of photographs, collected paper ephemera, layers of rubber stamping, found text... the sum of many parts

november 2025’s zine, « SILVERING THE LANDSCAPE », is a 8.5x14 poster zine made with digital and analog processes, mainly from photos i’ve taken over the past few months during my walks, housed in a hand-punched, rubber-stamped vintage envelope that reveals a small portion of the interior
cream-colored envelope with black and white abstract texture on a label adhered to it, plus black, red and blue rubber stamping. the envelope has a small punched-out window at the bottom in the shape of an oval, revealing the zine inside. the back of the envelope with more rubber stamping and the back of the oval "window" folded zine poster out of the envelope with textured black images and white text - "silvering the landscape" detail image of the abstract, textural poster zine

had a nice interaction the other day at the mailbox across from the street from the salon — a neighbor was mailing something out at the same time and we had a chat about how we try to use this box frequently so it doesn’t get relocated, haha

In case you’re wondering how St Paul Police could ever treat their own residents like they did yesterday look at this unhinged statement from who the officers elect as their leaders.
St. Paul Police Federation Statement Regarding the Recent Immigration and Customs Enforcement Activity in St. Paul ST PAUL POMOS 1947 Yesterday morning, federal agents executing a warrant were assaulted, threatened, and blocked by a violent mob. They called us for help. We responded only to protect lives and restore order - nothing more. We do not do immigration enforcement. Never have, never will. A core of professional agitators refused every order, attacked officers with frozen bottles and rocks, damaged patrol cars, and shouted "Don't let them leave." Our officers, while being assaulted, used the absolute minimum force necessary to end the threat and get everyone home safe. Not one rioter was seriously injured. Several officers were struck by projectiles, yet every one of them showed extraordinary discipline and courage. This is not about politics. This is about public safety. We are not your adversary. We are your police. When the next mob comes, please stand with us - not against us. Our community deserves nothing less.

I don't think people misunderstand separation ordinances intentionally, but I do think they are misunderstood and I think it's because the role of criminalization gets de-emphasized or forgotten.

That doesn't mean separation ordinances are meaningless or that they aren't real – people will argue that this is the case whenever cops do a thing like St. Paul's did yesterday – but it does mean they are not a panacea, and it does mean that you can't ignore criminalization and defend immigrants.

The crucial connection for understanding how strong separation ordinances between police and ICE are is the connection between criminalization and ICE. If the cops can argue that they're dealing with a criminal issue, a separation ordinance can, depending on how it's written, lose all of its power.
